He came in with his shoulder, so possibly his shoulder hit. Either way, it was extremely late and dangerous.

Based on Salmons face and TMMs face I think the contact was facial...

But yea no one is disputing the late and dangerous aspect of it.

I think the difference here is that in Rugby League a head clash is not considered high contact.

In Union it is considered high contact.

I don't think this was a high tackle. And I don't want head clashes penalised. Seeing guys binned in rugby for head clashes just makes my blood boil.

However, late, arguably no arms, forceful etc etc etc

What?
A head clash isnt high contact?????
That makes no sense at all.
Its not a tackle but its super dangerous.
Someone could break their jaw and lose the few teeth! 🤣
yeah but nah, fark, lets just play on... no penalty.. nothin'

Not having a go at you mate ...

I don't write the rules...

Head clashes are penalised when the likes of JWH and Napa have lead with their head.

But in general, incidental head on head contact has not been penalised, which I believe is what this was.

You have to ask the question, if the tackle wasn't late, would there have even been a second look?

This entire debate has now boiled down to how the bunker missed the late hit. Not why the bunker did not suggest a penalty for high contact.

it wasnt even a tackle.. its was a collision... he threw himself at TMM and couldnt get out of the way in time... similar to what montoya did and got penalised for...

Agreed

There are many facets to it but as far as I'm aware (and I could be wrong) there is very little discussion about the high contact aspect of this hit.

They've sent people from the field in recent years for head clashes. Ask Dale Finucane

I'm not suggesting it doesn't happen.

But surely we agree 90% of head clashes result in no further action both on and off-field?

In Union, 100% of head clashes are scrutinised on field with almost all resulting in immediate action.

Only coz thats the way it's been steered by the NRL.

Yea agreed, it's another example of inconsistency that drives fans crazy. How can you judge whether a player intentionally leads with the head or its an accident. In any case the defender has a responsibility to not put themselves or the attacker in a dangerous position.

Yeah, just ask Egan - the number of times he’s had his head knocked about with no repercussions on the instigator makes the whole duty of care for the players a joke

RTS gets 10min in the bin for a nothing tackle deemed “dangerous” yet a guy breaks his own jaw and teeth for a reckless late collision and it’s play on…. what a total joke

Annesley has to be made an example of and fired. He’s had enough opportunities but it’s getting worse not better

Penalty when Walsh copped it only a few weeks ago

What a joke, this a body double or what

Annesley: ““The view of the administration is that we think that it does reach that threshold of careless action at least. In our view, there’s an obligation on all defenders to ensure that they play the game with due regard for the safety of other players. This particular type of action of coming up and in at speed will often go wrong... and on that basis we believe it should have resulted in a charge."

If he wants to be spin doctor we can wheel out our politicians too

I hate golden point, have done since its conception.... if the scores are tied after a gut busting 80min both teams should walk away with a point, they both deserve to.

The Nrl carry on about wanting a close comp, well they'll be a step closer as 1pt draws in theory would keep teams closer together. Considering the amount of games that are tied after 80min nowadays.

Mind you TV ratings, trying to make the sport an entertainment spectacle and a million dollar bunker with all the bells and whistles, still can't convince the officials of foul play even if it punches them it the guts.

But we're stuck with it now and the conversation on this thread would never happen if there was an ounce of unbiased decent honesty in the bunker and no golden point... the game of rugby league is being ruined by this sort of shit....

Annesley is nothing but a talking head spouting NRL propaganda and the fact that was the best excuse they could come up with is laughable, does he really expect us to believe the person that is sitting there in the million dollar bunker forgot to check if the tackle was late and they didn't have good footage, pffffffffft

Even if this was true then why has no one been stood down for gross incompetence, there are 3 officials on the field and who knows how many in the bunker and they all missed it?

There was a long stoppage in play so there is zero excuses to miss it and the fact that was the best they could come up with is the scary part for us because it means they are working towards an agenda

If only this was a once off, but we seem to cop at least one every week.

The standard of referees hasn't changed over the years. Remember the ref that made a mistake and then said on air "nevermind it's just the Warriors "?
Even Bill Harrigan made some howlers.
What I'm struggling with is all the technology and extra bodies in the bunker and the MRC overseeing each game and the bullshit around it all. They've spent a fortune mismanaging something that could have been a benefit to the game if it was done well.
Twenty years after that incident we're actually worse off. I wish they would just leave the game alone

I am trying to think of the worst NRL decisions I have seen and this is quite high on my list.

Especially in the context of a precedent being set earlier in the game with going back for the Montoya penalty.

Years ago there was a forward pass called on Roger that would have been the match winning try and the forum was ropeable as replays showed it was flat.
Two months ago there was a kick in the in goal area where we scored and they disallowed it.
There was Dallin being tackled in the air to prevent a try which was a head scratcher about 6 weeks ago.

Bit at a loss as to why it wasn't a penalty on Saturday. We can't go back in time though. And there is nothing that can be done about it.
A few years ago fusitua got clotheslined in the head by latrell, dropped the ball (later failed his hia) they went 90 meters for a try, Cecchin seemed offended at the idea they'd even look at it. That was a good one.

Imagine Burton getting smashed late on the face and loses his headgear, right in front with 5 to go, bunker says play on and Dogs lose, the reactions from 360. only the Warriors fans would think their players will choke and not win the game, Pomps literally kicked one from front earlier and I swear he was a lot more smooth with his kicking this game than before
Imagine how Gus Gould would carry on... and how he would be making it about the sanctity of the game... And yet crickets from him which is typical of the Australian psyche too.

That one still burns in my memory, clear as day.

I think that actually might be the exact tipping point where I started questioning the NRLs integrity. Today, I’m a firm believer the sport is corrupt, incompetent, bias, staged, manufactured and possibly racist.

Nothing to do with our team winning or losing. Seen enough of the other games to know .
