I think we should go back to CNK and TMM, that's obviously the best as it beat Penrith 😂. Sarcasm by the way.

TMM and SJ worked real well early days last season before Te Maires injury. I don't think judging one game against the best team in the competition currently vs two games against poorer opposition is a fair cop.

TMM and CHT would not have made any difference to that result last night, it was our poor discipline and defence that lost it. Not our attack
There were issues with our bundles. And a lot of our boys dropped theirs.

Fair comment but before our recent 3 week winning streak they weren't great either

The Cowboys were sluggish. The Storm were well drilled, organised, resilient to our power play first 20min, in top form and assisted by the ever biased refereeing.
Looking at the stats, TMM received and passed more than SJ so obviously the dominant halve but SJ kicked 250+ metres to TMM’s 90+m. They’re obviously given a game plan to play to their strengths, so worth progressing with at the moment

Game was in the balance and Nuikore was about 1 cm from scoring under the posts. The balance tipped once they controversially went back to the TMM tackle which otherwise would have been a full set of six in Melbournes half. We had them rattled and it took that call immediately followed by Hughe's gamesmanship to get Montoya binned that swung the game back in Melbournes favor. A lot of what ifs but thats how close it actually was until the binnings.

18-20 before the binnings.

Like a pendulum. All thanks to the ref.

To be fair, the high shoot on Walker in the very first set wasnt a penalty. I thought he tried to square it up with a few dubious calls after which we challenged successfully. Probably made him even more uptight to prove us wrong with more 50/50 calls against us...

That TMM even kicked at all shows a change in game plan and the unpredictability on the 5th made for better viewing than those games against the Dragons and Knights. Scoring 24 points wins you a lot of games but conceding 38 loses you most. After last weeks display it was disappointing to see us lose our way in defence out wide again.

As harsh as it may sound, I’d give SJ the next game in that role and if it doesn’t work, consider making some big decisions. Bunty said in his after match interview in nsw cup that him pushed to nsw cup is just a symptom of youth pushing their way in. Like in said in that thread, he isn’t alone
That was interesting that Bunty interview.
I d never heard him speak before
Quietly spoken and humble
Great guy and player but coach prefers his Aussies in the forwards

Imagine playing a champion team that likes to fake like soccer players, with the ref favoring them, 16 times, how many times would we win? Like Webby said we need to be 10/10. We need to be 10 points better because how it’s reffed. We weren’t so we lost.

Still thrive for that 10/10 but the management and media need to drill in on the ridiculous refs eg how did the ref miss Grant slapping the ball out of SJ early, markers, going back 2 tackles for pen, blatant calls like that. Otherwise you never know if they start “unconscious bias” against us if we let them keep doing it

To me, it wasn't a strip. Hughes was held in a two man tackle and released the ball to MM. It wasn't a strip and should have been challenged.
The replay suggested otherwise. He may have let go of it but MM definitely had a stripping motion and ended up with the ball. Was a fair penalty imo.
But then the dodo just stood there holding the ball until Hughes grabbed it off him and took the quick tap. If MM throws the fuckin thing away and there is no quick tap!

Only watched the first half as I'd found out the outcome. They were never going to be as bad as they were for the opening 20 for the rest of the game and we never handled their good spell at all. Lucky first try, but once they got the wind in their sails we just seemed to fold.

That penalty though for the late hit on Hughes. Id be embarrassed if SJ was playing for penalties like that.

We talk about it over here with players staying down to get penalties for head contact and cards, but they need to stamp this playacting and diving out of the game.
I agree particularly with your last post. Players nowadays are finding ways to milk the system. Moreso, if you observe some of the players when they run the ball, some even change level at the last moment of impact enticing a high tackle of spme sort...?
It'll be interesting to see what the NRL does to stamp out these cunning tactics. But then again, we have teams like the Storm who go unchallenged which adds to their overall legacy in this game.
