Huh? Completely different scenario and set of circumstances. Of which the ref was wrong and got corrected.
Yeah are comparable though and I agree that Katoa's strip was legal. In the act of challenging the catch Eli missed but then with a hand still in around the ball made the strip. Perfectly legal however, when DWZ challenges the catch the ref looks to ascertain if it was a "defensive action", those were his words.
My point is it was a very overly complicated application of his discretion and not applied to both teams in comparable scenarios..

BTW I loved that Eli had a stormer, he deserves his success!!

Faalogo's showboating nearly gave me an aneurysm. I'm going to hold a grudge for sometime about it.

Got his desserts when he landed on the ball though 😂

Hope mr fantastic broke a rib

For a full house MSS was deafeningly quiet at stages last night

Katoa also had a big game

Storms X factors
Faalogo is only 21
Katoa 24

🤔

The errors that annoyed me were
1) Pompey's missed conversion when the score was 18-20. I thought we dropped our lips when he missed that sitter.
2) Tohu Harris stupid play of the ball when we had a move lined up on the 6th tackle.
3) Ford tackling Hughes as he kicked it
4) Some unecessary BS in the tackle from Walker and he got pinged.

That's 4 moments that all cost us.

As for the Storm. They were in peak form last night and would have beaten everyone else in the league as well the mood they were in.

I know Glen Lamar was singing his praises in the commentary but how good was Jack Howarth? Surely his best effort in first grade to date. From a Kiwis perspective hopefully he kicks on

Ugh yeah that missed conversion was freaking annoying. Always creates a big mental hurdle if your 2 behind.

Many players seem to lift against opposition that have shown interest in them and wondered if this was a case of that? Unlikely, but there was talk some time ago about storm willing to let him go

Tough to be mad at him after nailing that sideline conversion.
No I don't accept that. It is better for team morale if he made the sitter and missed the side line conversion.
He choked on the easy kick and it made us drop our lips. Maybe Shaun takes over goal kicking.

I thought that team needed a big one with the reintroduction of those players albeit against the competition leaders after what our players that came in did against good opposition previously. NSW cup impressive again yesterday and many of those players that came in, came from there in those wins. No I don’t think it was the right call to reintroduce SJ yesterday and change the unknown of what we’ve been throwing out and wonder if SJ has become predictable? There’s also a concern about how he copes with what could be taken as a demotion, or shifted at least from the role has maintained? I feel stink to question him after what he’s done for the jersey and what he did last year, but I’ve gone from dreading the idea of being without him and nervous about our chance of win without him to being fairly comfortable of the proposition of being without him
Good points you make of how we were dependent on SJ last year to not completely this year.

About your question of is SJ predictable? Yes but so is everyone with today's tech. The way I see of using SJ to get value out of him is:

Win those moments that we lost last night. Such as enduring the pressure. Defending resolutely. I've railed against and for SJ when he's been amazing and the opposite. If he's as expired as Tohu appears then send him to the Sharks. But I see different issues or more accurately more than just SJ issues. We'll work it out but this year is unfortunately harder to see as our window but not impossible.
Hughes lunged into him almost comically...

But that's the Storm - taking gamesmanship to extreme
Hughes played a blinder. The difference between him and us was........he got it done. I'd like that to be worked into our fabric. Hughes grubber to Coates was down right admirable. And he's one of those players I'll hate until he plays for us.

As harsh as it may sound, I’d give SJ the next game in that role and if it doesn’t work, consider making some big decisions. Bunty said in his after match interview in nsw cup that him pushed to nsw cup is just a symptom of youth pushing their way in. Like in said in that thread, he isn’t alone

Has been a problem for me since the team was named for this weekend.
Changing the winning halves pairing is not going to be good.
For some reason TMM and SJ isn't working as well as TMM and CHT

I think we should go back to CNK and TMM, that's obviously the best as it beat Penrith 😂. Sarcasm by the way.

TMM and SJ worked real well early days last season before Te Maires injury. I don't think judging one game against the best team in the competition currently vs two games against poorer opposition is a fair cop.

TMM and CHT would not have made any difference to that result last night, it was our poor discipline and defence that lost it. Not our attack
