Hughes lunged into him almost comically...

But that's the Storm - taking gamesmanship to extreme

The thing that annoys me is the refs very rarely call them out for it.

Grant should have been sent to the sin bins with about 6 minutes to go as he was being a massive arse when we were close to their line.

He knows that he can get away with it so he's always pushing the boundaries. Imagine having that mindset - we can't even get a correct call to go our way sometimes.

See how he slapped the ball out of SJ and Sutton was like knock on, he should be refereeing under 10s

I think as an individual, there would come a breaking point where the decisions of the ref, may it be fair or unfair would affect the performance of that individual. For example, when Montoya got sinned binned. That I would say was out of sheer frustration. Maybe, you could say the same for DWZ? Mans has his flaws like every other player but I back his defense. His many years of experience should suffice however, against a team such as the Storm (their speed on offense is something else), you gotta write it down as another lesson to learn.
I thought it was just a bad judgement read tbh.

Sensed an impending threat and looked to shut it down but got the read and timing way wrong.

Seems to be the way with both DWZ and Montoya, the gap between their bad and good reads is vast. Its either very good or very bad......if they could narrow that would be great for my blood pressure.

Montoya's bin was again just very bad, as much as u can say Jahrome played for it Montoya still made the decision to wrap him up knowing he was never onside. Let him tap and go and if youve got to turn around and shadow him do that. I could understand if u were 10 metres out from the line (in which case it would probably be a penalty try anyway) but he still had room to recover.

Either way both were extremely impactful as we were only 2 points behind and had just got ourselves back into the contest, and for mine both were totally unnecessary plays and from the ensuing 12 points they scored from shortened numbers was too much pressure for us to overcome.

Looking at the stats, TMM received and passed more than SJ so obviously the dominant halve but SJ kicked 250+ metres to TMM’s 90+m. They’re obviously given a game plan to play to their strengths, so worth progressing with at the moment
They're going to be Webby's first choice halves pair so I suppose we have to back them and the game plan, their potential ceiling is probably higher than TMM/CHT this year if Shaun can stay fit and get back his peak 2023 form. If it doesn't happen in the next 4-5 games we'll have a dilemma and some tough calls over SJ's future.

Big picture I had us winning only 3 of the 5 games between the byes but still making the top 6 due to an easier last section of the draw. I had us losing to the Storm.

We were in it until the 6 Storm penalties in a row and 2 send offs. Against lessor teams I still back us and we should smash the Titans with our past months form.

Disappointing but you don’t win em all. Onwards and upwards.

It’s definitely not off the cards and we have the quality to do so. Top 4 is pretty much gone, unless we manage to win every remaining game left. How the knights went on that sort of streak last season without getting shafted by the refs is amazing.

I'm happy with the SJ TMM balance. Had we known this at the beginning of the season, I'm sure we'd be in a far better ladder position.

Tohu unfortunately seems like the next squeaky cog, definitely need think about the future of that position.

Funnily enough, I wasnt disappointed with the effort, just the execution.

I don't know if Saturday night is the end of the world. It is frustrating to get so comprehensively beaten, but I take solace in:
  1. It was *only* a 14 point differential
  2. We had two sinbinnings, and at one stage had 11 players
  3. We had to play some players out of position
  4. Storm are the competition standard setters
  5. Two of their players (Hughes and Katoa) gave us an absolute schooling
I think what makes it hard to swallow is that it was a game that we all thought we were up for (and at home) and the result was far from expectation. To be honest, I was shocked that the sustained pressure in the first 20 mins didn't seem to sap the Storm at all. They basically did a 20 minute intense workout and managed to play a 60 minute game straight after and beat us 38-10

All this talk about which player is better than another is all a bit moot given we always will have some sort of injury / suspension / sickness playing out in the team.

I think everyone is digging too deep into our problems at the moment, there is a simple reason for what happened on Saturday /s

Of the games at Mount Smart this year, I have..
Skipped Trial v Dolphins (Win)
Went to Round 1 v Sharks (Loss)
Skipped Round 4 v Knights (Win)
Went to Round 6 v Sea Eagles (Draw)
Went to Round 8 v Titans (Loss)
Skipped Round 12 v Dolphins (Win)
Went to Round 15 v Storm (Loss)

Needless to say, I will be taking one for the team and skip the Broncos game next weekend 🫠

Don't come back.

We've also lost every game I've worn vintage merchandise too. So I will change my outfit.

Adam Blair did a snakey move by standing in the tunnel along with the other Ex Storm champions to clap Melbourne on to the field as they ran on to the field.
Why would Adam agree to do that as an ex warrior knowing the move was designed to give the Storm players confidence away from home.
Benedict Arnold Move. Hope the warriors never hire him now.
To be fair he only came to us on a retirement deal not sure how staunch Warriors he ever was.
I remember him doing an interview when he was with the Storm and he was getting asked about signing rumours (we were chasing him) and he (sarcastically) commented “nah I’m going to the Warriors!” And cracked up to infer we were a joke and not a serious consideration. He ended up going to the Tigers and turning to shit.

Thanks for putting that into perspective. 👍👍👍

One thing I noticed about the Storm on Saturday is that all their players accepted the ref's decisions without complaining and left it to their captain to do the whining and complaining. The warriors and for that matter all the other teams in the league have all their players cry blue murder and sometimes yell and swear at the ref in anger.
Who do you think is likely to get better decisions from the refs on an ongoing basis.
Bellamy seems to be the only coach whose attention to detail includes coaching his players on how to respond to bad refereeing decisions.
Bellamy outcoached Webster on Saturday. It was a close match but the old fox out coached the young hound.
(Including organising a guard of honour for his players to be clapped on to the field by past Storm Legends.)
