We don't really score from long range. Inside the 20 we are deadly.

The tries from 40 out would be a lot more common if guys making breaks would set up the next pass. It seems like we have had quite a few guys put through holes the last season and either slipped over in the break or failed to set up the support. Well mainly the starters, cause Ale did it well. It may have not ended up scoring play but he handled it better than a few of his experienced team mates.

A couple of bombed tries - but that probably applied to the Raiders as well. I am glad we were eight ahead in the last 10 minutes. Storm taught us a lesson last week but Raiders weren't good enough.
We had to kick the ball down field on first tackle and make Rapana run.

I thought it was.the win they needed not because they were 0-2 results wise, but because they got into the grind and didn't panic. It is a long season and that grinding attitude will be vital.

Enough has been spoken about the stars in the tea.. my analogy is the speed of a convoy is set by the slowest ships. Jackson, Berry Lussick, Jazz, Bunty Ale and CHT made big contributions. Good signs.

Yeah, I was pleased with the service from CHT dummy half. I had my doubts but his passes were crisp and on point. I’m one of his harshest critics but I thought he did good

Yeah it’s an interesting approach ie developing specialist vs utility players who can cover multiple positions. Does make me wonder whether having one player stick to one position is really necessary vs having the best players on the field regardless of where they play eg Ali leuatua - gun player who needs a spot

Moving the ball to our right in the opposition 20 was a strength last year. It's looking like it might have improved this year.

I think it was Matty Johns that said last year or during 2022 that the Panthers don't do set up places. It looks like we are getting to that point as last year you could sometimes see we'd be getting to a specific position with straight setup plays. Now it looks like the setup plays have a bit more to them and then they go.

Webster also made a comment after on game last year how although we had the formation it looked to predictable. He said something along the lines of having the formation but having a number of options or not having to be forced to use it. So it would be more fluid.

We still need to improve our left hand side. But if we can improve on last year we could be in for some good times.

The switch across field by Dallin was totally unexpected by Canberra (and us too) and resulted to a try to Metcalf. This was fine switch of play that Webby would have applauded.

Did you hear Webby say he mentioned that week when Dal cuts back in someone needs to hit a hole. The fact it then happened days later. No wonder the players are buying in so much.

With the HIA rule the way it is and the potential for the NRL to get stricter on head contact I think its better to have guys who can cover multiple positions.

It’s funny watching new recruit capewah smiling and patting people on the back, while everyone else is spraying each other after errors, really speaks to the change in attitude.

Bit worrying couldn’t score for 50 minutes in the middle of the game, but easily explained away with the players out.

Got a good bench rotation going this week, ironically mandatory HIAs give them a free middle interchange, which helps with that.

If RTS is moving position next week would be tempting to put Pompey and Kosi in together, that attempted intercept by Monty were diabolical

Good comparison, took Lane quite a while to show what was really there, he looked awkward, slow, and weak in the contact till he matured eh, now he is a weapon.

Don't quite get that comparison, Lane's a freak at nearly 2 metres/6"7, Jacko's more a standard model battler with good size and big motor. He was in everything v Raiders, what I like about him is how he berates and gets dirty on himself after a mistake, you want to see that anger.

Teams will be targeting him for his potential to cough up a ball but he's slowly starting to lose that heart in mouth mistakeathon aura as he gets more experienced. Big potential for him if he keeps improving in that aspect, but he's never going to be Shaun Lane with the offloads from the upper atmosphere and dead set freak plays. I was gutted we bombed that try but happy he didn't pass if he didn't see Metcalf in the clear.

How fast did Luke look when he ran Monty out though, when he gets those blitzing runs going with a few gaps and numbers it's going to be magic.

Webby is much more than a motivator: his tactical nouse is not truly appreciated imo. The way we started running double lead plays against Melbourne's rushing edge defence last week was also brilliant.

I watched the game again this morning. After Montoya got bundled into touch he gave Luke a spray so Luke had no choice but to turn around and march back into the defensive line without making eye contact.

Metcalf should not have passed the ball to Montoya, as Montoya was not in a better position than him, and he arguably needs to to straighten his attacking shape (although the Raiders' defence was good and sent both of our sides sideways).

However, this has happened several times over the past few years with Montoya in that the player with the ball (in this case Metcalf, but also Pompey previously too) has run sideways towards the sideline and Montoya does not react - he could have quite easily changed his line to go back inside. I haven't rewatched the game, but recall at the ground that the inside chase from the Raiders wasn't amazing. Montoya tends to hold his wing at all costs, which should generally be the default where the attack is straight, but where everyone is going sideways, someone needs to go under the ballplayer!

Yeah that sequence looked like two guys both doing the wrong thing. The body language on both after it showed they knew that could have come out better. Ultimately Metcalf should have held it but it also felt like he was expecting Montoya to play off him better.

Heard someone trying to explain in the radio this morning that the difference was intent as Thompson facing towards Pap but Rapana had his back to CHT. Tried looking it up and I couldn't see anything about the direction one player is facing making any difference. @Ref would intent or direction make any difference?

Both collisions had the same degree of carelessness and I would have sin binned them both.
It doesn't have to be all about intent or no intent.
Its about a duty of care to your fellow players and both incidents were lacking that.
Carelessness can result in a serious injury.
I think they should both get a one week holiday as a deterrent.

Totally ridiculous that the Raiders end up with a zero tackle after that and ironic but typical Sticky that he still finds shit to moan about that cost them
