This team is good, the standard has been set high, but until we have players (especially in the backs) who can defend and provide genuine strike/x-factor then we're pretty much limited to being close but not good enough.

That was what we were last year before the preliminary final. Brisbane had what we don't in speed youth X factor and absolute disrespect for elders.

So we went and got some 30 year olds and resigned our captain. Yes we need genuine strike and X factor. Development is key and an astute signing or two

Would love to see stats on Jackson Ford, average metres per runs, and average post contact metres per tackle and lastly average Nathan Hindmarsh 3rd man, touch the ass of a player tackles.

One last one, amount of tries overturned for obstructing the defence. I’d rather a 40 minute impact player who bends the line, over a super coach stat king who provides zero impact on the result. Do Panther forwards dominate Super Coach stats, fuck no.

This game felt like we were going to run riot over the storm.... But like always, even when the Storm is playing shit, everything starts magically going their way.
I went back and looked at some moments. The markers not square was BS! We should have a awarded a penalty there for an offside player interfering in the ruck.
Katoa`s try was freaking lucky. But Pompey has a clean catch and Katoa strips him before he touches the ground.
Hughes literally takes 6 steps off the mark for his touch finder. Everything that followed textbook Warriors v Storm.

We have the skill of variety in that we can start crappy or start great. But we are still developing consistently higher standards from start to finish throughout the entire squad. We'll get there. But not tonight

Maybe Webster told SJ to stop being a ball hog and let Martin run the show a bit more so he thought fuck it.
Webster pre game did say SJ was going to be playing a different style.

TMM played as halfback today, SJ as 5/8.

CNK usually chimes into attack on right but was on the left today. It seems like we only know how to play with one dominant playmaker, and attack is focussed that side.

I thought we would be able to see both sides show off their attacking abilities with TMM and SJ running shows on either side, giving options galore and take away the unpredictability.

I was wrong. We just moved from one dominant playmaker on right to swtching it all to the left.

Marata was awesome as was Ford and Barnett. AFB was at his usual best. Bench use was a little strange but seems like CHT is supposed to sit there all game and come on for final 5 mins if any. Got 6 mins today due to Walker playing centre for over a half.

I think the coaching staff is devoid of using the players well or adjust game plan to suit them. We did it so well last year, but this year shows we are not able to adapt to game situations. Though it was again the right move to start with Walker rather than Tohu. Capewell we didnt and dont need.

That first 20 was awesome though. A lot of it because of the storm bumbling away. Our defence in pushing back their players was great. Love to see intent and attack even in defence.

Our backs are very average outside of CNK (although his nonchalant effort in that near storm try was embarrassing).

The team feels either hot or cold. Bench players need to be impact players that can make a difference. The players we have it seems like we are trying to get a lead and then put the bench players in to grind out a win w defence. Its a weak mindset if that is actually the plan.

Glad thats Paps and Munster were not playing.

Refereeing was atrocious but that should not discount the stupid errors the team made to hand the win to the storm.

I was going to ask. Does it happen often that they go back for a penalty?
I can recall them more when the game has a stoppage calling out the player and saying they are on report for an incident a few plays back.

Both sin bins I am fine with. The Montoya one the coaches usually want you player to tackle the player instead of giving up the points. Looking at the replay it looked like we had some coverage there with CNK back there and Montoya just tackled him as he ran at him. I'd need to check again to confirm if we had players there.

To me. Hughes gave the ball to MM in a two man tackle (he was so shocked he didn't know what to do with it), Storm got the penalty, Hughes tapped it and ran straight at a retreating MM. It was a deliberate attempt to get a sinbin. Very clever but not a good look.

Hughes just takes the piss out of the officials- he’s too smart for them- not really in the spirit of the game but gets away with it so of course he’s gonna keep doing it.

Thats not true. Dylan Brown signed his extenson. He is contracted via a series of player (in 2026 till 2028) and mutual option till 2031.

Earliest any team can get him is 2026, if he chooses to exercise his player option at end of 25. A player doesnt sign a contract structured like that unless they are pretty happy to stay at the club for the rest of their career barring some major changes.

Bench players need to be used more effectively, Egan needs a rest at half time then finish the game.

We were only 2 points behind and had just started to wrest back the initiative with the Barnett try.......conceded 12 points which just made it a bridge too far.

Wingers will always come up with an error or 2 but u dont need to be put under that sort of pressure from your flanks

Hard to tell from team stats, Capewah had strong running and PTB, high tackle efficiency, Tohu has the same stats on average as Ford but better tackle efficiency, he and Capewah played 44 and 24 minutes respectively, not overused, Jazz a bit low with tackling efficiency but might be taking on NAS etc? Marata 50+ minutes then only 4 minutes on second stint

Might be a case of needing bigger bodies against these top teams on D? Ale can offer 10m/run and probably 80-90% tackling? Bunty on a good day too.

The keys could be
- kick diffusals (RTS can help?, Pompey’s the last outside back you want catching)
- line breaks - what’s with the 2 first half tries on the left
- Walker playing well at centre but we need a piece of that in the middle, CHT needs to be full time injury back cover
- foul plays, Monty’s definitely worse than Pomp’s jersey grab to create the try last year

Even Pompey kicking it from sidelines then miss the one in front, some big moment lapses

The last 2 points can be easily fixed…

That doesnt look correct. Foxsports data is most reliable 95m, 35m post contact.

NRl.com does stats badly (which is another reason why fantasy purists dislike their fantasy comps). Championdata has 125m/59m.
