General Will we make the 8?

Really don't know why we are freaking out about Barney being out for the season. Yes it is a massive loss but I don't think it greatly negatively impacts our ability to make the 4. We've shown already that we have enough versatility in our pack to cover the loss of one of our spiritual leaders JFH for an extended period. So long as we have one of Barney/JFH, we should be fine. We were actually undefeated when JFH wasn't on the field but Barney was. I think we'll go fine when we have the reverse scenario happen.

I'd say near certainty. Just thinking of when the Broncos were flying (was it last season?) and then plummeted when things got really tough. It looks like 12-12 would be enough for the 8 this year so it's very close to a given. Where we are sitting though finishing 6th-8th would be a disaster which shouldn't happen.
Probably 12 and 12 with good P/D though.

13 and 11 I think gets you in. 4 more wins.

It's a huge out.

I think you'd be on to it by saying that it shouldn't massively impact us making the 8, but the top 4 is a different story.

I hope I'm wrong. Time will tell if JFH has the calming influence that Barney gives when the game is on the line.

Previous years very true, but they have this next man up mentality which makes the big difference. Another thing, outside of Ali, Jacob, and Leka, and to a lesser extent Demetric the players in contention to take Mitche's role like Bunty have NRL experience.

Yeah, was gutting to hear the prognosis, but knowing our boys went 4/5 while one of our hard-hitting co-captains was out injured (including the game he got injured in v Melbourne), so I'm much more confident about us stepping up whilst stepping into Mitch's boots so to speak, rather than becoming rudderless messes like seasons gone when star players are down and out for extended periods.

This week will be a massive test (though I don't really know how Sharks have been performing this year overall) - whatever the result that bye week will be well deserved!

I'm picking Capewah will move up a level as far as adding the experience we need.
For someone pretty much written off he has had a remarkable year is playing some great footy. Maybe being injury free has helped. Always has something to say in the team huddle.
I expect his leadership will be important.
Even though there is a bye we wouldn't want him picked for origin

Interesting how the bottom half of the ladder doesn't really change when you take out the two points for the bye but there's a number of changes in the Top 8 when the bye points are removed. Biggest beneficiaries are the Raiders who overtake the Bulldogs and the Bunnies who jump up from 7th to 9th. Biggest losers are the Cowboys who, despite still staying in the Top 8 drop from 6th to 8th and the Dragons who drop out of the Top 8.

And, a couple of other interesting stats from the NRL table.....
The Warriors are in 12th spot for points scored and 5th equal spot (with the Dragons) for points against. We're in 8th spot in Point Diff.

Ya we're probably No.1 for clutch and causing heart attacks

7:1 for games decided under 8 points (6:1 for under 6 points)

Raiders look like a shoe in for minor premiership now

I don't care about the rest of the top eight except for the Panthers, who by my calculations if they streak from here could knock us out of a pretty decent shot at a top four finish (using my ladder predictor method which is simple losses to the top sides, throw in two to three banana skins because it is the NRL and hey presto).

So I imagined losses to Raiders, Sharks (we won so the ladder predictor had to be redone), Panthers, Broncos, Manly, Dogs.

At the same time I have us beat up on the Tigers, Dragons, Knights, win one vs Titans who we play twice, we beat the Eels.

Then I have my banana skin losses to the unpredictable Dolphins, one loss out of the two Titans games.

Storm
Raiders
Bulldogs
Panthers

Warriors 5th
Sharks
Manly
Rabbitohs.

I think my ladder formula is realistic (not saying accurate coz this is the NRL and that would be crazy).

If we beat the the Panthers next week we would kill off their streak and take their top four chance off them.

Can we win top four without beating the Panthers? yeah course, but it is harder is all.

Good post.

I'm very optimistic, but it's always good to predict conservatively as this season has been all over the place.

The Dolphins are that team this year. They freaked me out the first time and they'll freak me out at home.

The Raiders are very good, but I have a sneaky suspicion that the thread of a third loss would have us come out similar to last weekend.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if I were a gambling man - I would have lost the house by now.

Personally, I think we can take the Broncs, Manly and both Titans games.
