General Warriors SG Ball 2025

Penrith defuse a grubber and then we give away an offside penalty. We are making it hard for ourselves by not building any pressure

Just as we get a roll on down the middle with some great runs and a couple of 6 against, there's a break in play as a Penrith player looks in a bad way.

Play resumed and the player looks ok but a little worse for wear. We were in good field position, but then lose the ball after Capper and Davidson-Faaiuaso take dummy half scoots.

Capper throws an offload 25 mins out, but was deemed to have lost it, and we're back under pressure.
He breaks a lot of tackle through his strength and fend, but most of it is going sideways rather than through the line. Would be better trying to straighten up and getting his nose through.

And, as I write that, they miss a tackle down his edge and the opposing centre reaches over to score.

Geez it's hard to watch these boys.
They're trying hard and the opportunities are there, they're just not icing them. That then puts them under fatigue.

I think that's the difference between Matts and SG Ball - the Aussie sides are much better technically throw pathways, coaching, etc. and it shows. Our boys' natural ability, size and strength works wonders at Matt's, but it's only half the battle at SG Ball and up.

I suspect we'll see this improve as our pathways continue to develop and it flows down into local and rep footy in NZ.

A good set ends with a shift to the left, but Bowden spills a Pauling pass. A debut to forget for Bowden, but will be better for it (he's a bit body for a winger).

Has been pretty scrappy for both teams in the second half. Lots of errors, Penrith have just capitalised better.

Try Warriors! Purcell makes a great run down the left side after busting through tackles. He opts to fend the fullback instead of using Pauling in support.

Good reward for a pretty good day out for Purcell (but would have looked silly if he didn't beat the fullback). Bright future in the centres, or on the wing, for him with his strength and speed.

8-28 with 4 to play

Geez the 19s boys have struggled 2 years on the Trot. Doesn’t make much sense. 17s & cup are high quality but it drops off at the 19s and 21s
See my post a couple above. On the eye test, it makes a bit of sense - the Aussie teams are very well drilled on the technical side of the game (and with greater player numbers, this means more players / teams are technically better than our local comps back home).

It's the age where barge over trys and bumping players off stops being as effective and you actually have to get comfortable in the grind and construct tries.

Can tell most of our spine players are selected because of some flashy running they did at junior level behind dominant forwards.
