General Warriors SG Ball 2025

Geez the 19s boys have struggled 2 years on the Trot. Doesn’t make much sense. 17s & cup are high quality but it drops off at the 19s and 21s
The halves play in our SG Ball team is pretty shocking tbf. No idea why they're persevering with Maui and this Jensen guy hasn't stood out at all.

I'm assuming Pauling is getting picked to alleviate some of that as a sort of 3rd half playing at fullback but he's pretty mid too tbh. Savea at hooker is a tacklebot hooker without any playmaking ability who's also playing up a year.

Basically none of the spine players are future first graders.

I agree that Pauling probably not a NRL prospect, but this team needs him. He's the only one who appears to use his brain.

Try Warriors! Purcell makes a great run down the left side after busting through tackles. He opts to fend the fullback instead of using Pauling in support.

Good reward for a pretty good day out for Purcell (but would have looked silly if he didn't beat the fullback). Bright future in the centres, or on the wing.

I thought he was pretty average before that. Him and his winger too many Kosi like errors.

The bit of carry on after his try was silly too. You're losing by twenty points kid, stay humble. Caught the peacocking bug off Capper.

Where is Thompson and Ratcliffe?

Is it because they've only just turned 17 or something? Otherwise yeah makes no sense.

Interesting the Paranihi seems locked in too. Was always the fourth or fifth best player in Waikato rep teams at best.

In the last SJ cup team, Kaea Cribb was the obvious standout, who I can only presume was too fast for Warriors scouts liking now at Burleigh Bears. And Jacques Burke the other who I can only assume can kick too far and spiral bomb too high for our liking.

Reckon theres a few favourites been picked over actual skill? Sad to hear.

Only likely

They turn 18 this year so they are a year younger.

Ezekiel (winger), Savea (hooker), Militoni and Paranihi (bench) are the only regulars from the Matts side last year.

There is a big gap between 18 and 19 year olds, but would've thought they are worth the investment given they are more likely to be NRL players despite maybe not being the better player right now.

Pauling and Maui have been in the side for two years now so can understand the seniority but seems like a sunk cost given their low ceilings.

Only genuine NRL player I can see in this team is Hiraka Waitai-Haenga.

Ezekiel, Filipo, Wi Neera could be if they develop.

Do you think Jack Thompson is a decent NRL prospect?

I thought he was one of the best across the first two weeks. Granted a few errors today, but is a powerhouse with ball in hand. If he can put on a bit of weight and grow a few inches, he has the potential to be a strike centre.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of that. Let it go through to the keeper given it was against the Panthers after all of their less than humble (but probably warranted) celebrations over the years haha.

We looked really good to start, but those errors and discipline are hurting us. Dogs now rolling us in the middle a bit.

Was hoping Capper's offload try assist for the first try would help his confidence. That grubber from Maui was class too.

Dogs strike again, Meihana Pauling can't hold onto a last tackle bomb and the Dogs fullback scores on the left corner from the scrum. Kicks good from wide out, 10-12 Dogs with 6 minutes until halftime.

Dogs in again with their bench middle carrying a few Warriors over the line and reaching out to plant the ball on the line (fairly ordinary D).

Down 10-18 and then the kick-off goes out on the full.
