Just my observation that I’m entitled to post on a forum, that I have no evidence to say is true, but you have no evidence to say it’s false. You’d have to be naive to think all of this collectively from his contract negotiations going quiet to his onfield form aren’t in some way connected. Something is going on and he’s not the only one whose form has dipped considerably. The other noticeably to me is CNK
No ones saying your not entitled bro but as far as his onfield form goes yeah possibly, add to that injury and age as well. How that corresponds to Pompey getting burned on the outside for a try, Jazz falling off tackles letting in tries, Addin not sliding causing overlaps for tries.......i mean Defence did a complete breakdown of how the Titans scored all their points......that somehow SJ has caused these players to do this is where it becomes a stretch for me.

Thought we were still a bit clunky but the aggression and commitment were there. Another week for the halves to gel further and I'm sure it will be even better. A win was required for a lot of reasons and we got there so that's a tick. The next game is always a kicker for us, doesn't matter who it is. Field and the pill looked greasy which wouldn't have helped.
Barnett is the glue

I just can’t see how Barnett and Capewell change a 50 point defensive effort in the space of a week and totally see more in who was running that ship to do with that poor attitude. We beat the two top 4 teams with many more players in different positions and nsw cup players coming into the side. Even beating the panthers with CNK at five eighth for fucks sake

SJ has a way higher ceiling than TMM or CHT and we all know that.
But not in 2024.

I do believe that SJ is also playing injured. The first 8 games of the season he had been doing ok, then started not training with the team and we started losing.

For me the only time he comes back now is injury to TMM. Otherwise we should stick with TMM/CHT.

RTS was weak sauce most of that game. I want him on wing or fb that's it. Center is not him, not with how we play. I really want MTG there.

Ford needs to pay 60+ minutes or make way for another bench player.

But Webby won't make any of these changes.

How has contract negotiations gone quiet? CEO said the contract is in SJs court now.

So you can see how one player can cause a bad attitude throughout the team (which personally i dont think was the case) yet 2 players cant improve that?

Ok fair enough, so tell me how exactly does SJ steering the ship correlate to Pompey on the other side of the field putting a weak shoulder on Beau Fermour running a hole to score or Jazz dropping off a tackle on hooker Randall in the middle of the park?

I mean i totally get that our attack looks way more connected and varied when he's been out but i dont get how he gets the blame for players not being switched on defensively for that debacle last week.

It is my view after doing many multi factor analyses that there is never one reason for anything happening. So you are right blaming it on SJ is myopic.
The factors that stood out to me was CHT playing lock where he got outmuscled. Walker playing second row where he was awful. CNK having the worst night of his career probably cost us 20 of the 66 points.
Where SJ comes into it is that by the Warriors being unable to cross the stripe when we did have the ball we couldn't bring the massive warriors fans crowd in the Gold Coast stadium into the match. The most applauded try of the night in terms of noise was the warriors single try. Once Gold cost got to about 30 to zero as opposed to say 30-12 had SJ got us across the stripe, the scoreboard pressure became immense and Gold Coast became emboldened by how far in front they were so they scored some adventurous tries and ran up the scoreboard.
The All Blacks have a similar MO if you keep the game tight the ABs will play percentage rugby. If you clock off and let the ABs get 30 points ahead they will suddenly get expansive and emboldened by the score line and put the opposition to the sword.

Gold Coast put us to the sword last week once they had the game in the bag by half time.
Good thesis Wrighty, give this man his PhD.

My own theory is that the game revolves around the no. 7. To use a chess analogy, the halfback is the chess player who sees the whole board if he's any good, everyone else is pieces for him to move around and manipulate as he sees fit. The ability to visualise the board and think multiple moves ahead is what separates the elite 7's from the mediocre and average 7's, and that only happens with time and maturity. TMM seems to have that gift. Of course if his pawns in the forwards aren't making metres for field position he's severely limited in his potential moves.

Joey Johns said at his peak he felt like he was levitating above the field and looking down so he saw each move before it happened, but he's bipolar, that's a rare gift only the immortals and Angus Crichton have.

Can we have a forum presentation of my honourary PHD?

Very interesting post thanks for that.

Or AFB running for 40 odd metres, a million dollar prop. Just a weak attitude across the board that wasn’t there this week for whatever reason. Out of interest, where do see TMM’s robotic remark directed after the game?

Worse case how do you honour Shaun Jonhnson and to a lesser extent tohu.
Team flows well without shaun, something up for sure.
But season aside how do you honour them, both have bleed warriors, cause look at stats SJ owns alot for kicking and tohu often leads VB hard index?
However seems to preform better without them, hard cause they earnt Thier spots via the dark days

There is a very strange case to be made, and very strange indeed, for letting SJ and Tohu play out the season and making next yeat our run at the premiership and releasing them both in the off season.
We aren't winning the premiership this year. So just let them play to honour them but tell them soon it is their last year and just choose to flag this season.
I think that would be a strange approach but it is an option.

I think he’ll still play a part in the season- someone will get injured or suspended out of tmm, cht or Egan or we’ll drop a couple of games (touch wood).
I hope none of these things happen but it’s odds on at least one of them will.
He’s a pretty handy card to have up your sleeve especially if given the time to get his body right.

Think there’s been a need for Tohu to be there for his obvious work ethic and attitude to training with these young guys coming through looking undisciplined at times, especially with the potential for AFB to lose interest in these areas leaving at the end of the year, which hasn’t happened onfield but it’s hard to say whether that’s still necessary with the arrival of JFH, and having an increasingly impressive Barnett too

You have to be a simple minded soul to think that Barnett and Capewell were the 50 point difference in the space of a week

They weren’t the difference.
The difference was the opposition. Broncos missing half their team in Walsh,, Reynolds, Haas, Carrigan, Oates, Riki… that was a 💙 Mighty NSW cup team they played today. But don’t let that stop you all from celebrating a win !!!!
