Berry is out of form and the ‘great tackler’ is becoming a bit of a myth.

He’s tackled at a lowly 85% this year which is below Pompey and Ali (who was dropped for him) and Ali actually has an attacking game.

Ali and Pompey also physically dominate in tackles, which Berry doesn’t have.

Ali and Pompey have averaged 91m and 101m this season, keeping our forwards fresher than Berrys 69m…

I’ve waited for Berry to break out but injury has really hampered the guy and it’s now hampering the team. MTG made 84% tackles and 128m in his game and was fired by the forum as a comparison.
It's fucking ridiculous playing Berry over Ali at this point. I don't know if he swore at Webby or something but it's time for him to come back. As mentioned he can't be worse at defense than Berry, who also carries a massive in game injury risk and little upside.

Ali is out for another month and he's not taking over Berry unless he can get his fitness up and chase those kicks, both Raiders and Panthers games their wingers were running 20m+ and started their set around their 30m and putting up attacking bombs at the end of their sets.

Berry finally got through one full game without any injury let's see if he can get back in form next week.

But do those fast kick chases really affect results?

Berry has won 60% of his games this year, less than the teams overall 66%.

Our season pd is 11 but with Berry in the team it’s -18.

I reckon scoring tries and stopping them is the selection platform you build off and kick chase is a bonus.

Ali is out until round 21 - which is most likely after that. I agree with you on Berry - think he has missed 5 tackles in each of his last two games (could be wrong). Hate to say it - by the time Ali is due back - Berry will
Most likely be injured again.

Berry's winning % was 75% before the weekend 🤷‍♀️

Capewell as right centre - 4:0 at 100%

Capewell/Berry as right centre - 7:2 at 78%

Berry as right centre - 3:2 = 60%

Ali as right centre - 3:2 = 60%

Neither Capewell/Berry as right centre - 3:3 = 50%

Maybe we should just have Capewell at centre and rotate Leka, Laban and Kayliss in the second row 🤣

Kos could not be blamed for those missed tackles then? He let in only one try of his opposite winger when too far in field.
Oh I am not blaming Kosi :). I just wanted to point out that others have missed tackles. Jeepers Capewell has the most missed tackles in the NRL lol. Also - often the winger will come in when the inside men (not just the centre but further in slide in. People think it’s an easy thing to defend as a winger and/or centre. Centre is one of the hardest positions to defend they say.

3 or 4 years ago I used to post "a turning point" moment for each win or loss following a game. Some people liked it and others couldn't relate as they think each moment over 80 minutes is equally important.
In this match vs the Broncos I think it did boil down to one moment.

Set 1 - tackle three Egan runs the ball up when we are in trouble coming out of our own end. He no look passes to Marata who is bewildered as to what Egan is up to. It hits Maratas hand and is a knock on. Broncos score 60 seconds later. We spend the rest of the match chasing the game. Taking risks to catch up. All of which back fire. And don't regain our composure until Webster settles us down at half time.
We really needed to regroup better and there was a lack of leadership from Fish to get us back on track. Instead the score ballooned out to 18 to 0. An example of a catch up play that went wrong was trying to charge down their 6th tackle kick at the half way line only for this to back fire with the pill rebounding to Willison and they end up scoring a back breaking try moments before half time.

Lessons for next time
1) Egan to simplify his sleight of hand when we running it off our try line.
2) Marata to know his half back. They have been playing together for years. He needs to be switched on for a no look pass.
3) Our on field leadership needs to step up. It was really good when Barnett was there. Fish needs to own this team. We are young and need direction. Own the moments Fish. Lead us to the promised land.
