Add to that NRL experence in games: At age 27 Metcalf has played just 43 games - that is in indicator of his time spent injured rather than ability. At 25 years old, Tannah already has twice that number under his belt. He has also "done his time" in apprenticeship at Cup level without complaint.

Also a quick look in the rear view mirror show's real halfback talent coming behind in the shape of Jye Linnane and before him Jet Cleary. We are well served at halfback now and in the future whether LM stays or goes.

My greater concern is that Chanel has indicated through media that he wants only a 12 month contract. Not clear what that is about.
saw someone suggest to me on twitter (just a suggestion not any insider info) that maybe the 1 year thing is just to aus clubs in case of homesickness etc, doesn’t want to be locked in over there long term

surely wahs could put player/mutual options into a longer term deal - but do we know whether the warriors have even formally offered anything? all the talk was about boyd and webbys comments in the presser were that he (not the club as a whole) specifically was just chatting to chanel

I'm generally of the view that halves are late bloomers. Joey Johns talks about it all the time on 9. It takes a while for halves to develop their craft, with many only becoming regular first graders at the age of 26/27 which is where Boyd is now. Hanson is even younger at 23. Give him time for the Webby premium to take effect and I think Boyd/Hanson could be a nice combo.
Ah gottcha.

I've never been a big fan of Hanson, but that doesn't mean anything in the Webster system, after everything we have seen since 2023 you can't write off anyone.

I love your optimism Sydney -a case of not breaking a record that has already gone for broke.
I just don't see how Luke leaving destabilizes the playing group if he isn't playing. Everything is working so well under Tannah and it seems that the team is really clicking under him in a way that we didn't last year under Luke. If anything, this probably boosts Tannah's confidence in a way that can only help the team on the field.

Do y'all think we'll get anything official soon?

I assume webby will do the same thing he normally does during media day if nothing is made official "he's still contracted here, we'd love to see him play but fitting him in with so many playing so well is difficult but Metcalf is a team player". That sort of diplomatic stuff he is very good with.

The media seem to have built up a degree of respect for Webster. Most of the stories around this Metcalf Boyd situation have been sympathetic to the plight of the Warriors.

That is a stark change from Australian media attitudes in the past where commentators would scoff and pour scorn on the club - or just look to put the boot in because the Warriors were frankly a ridiculous circus a lot of the time.

The stories about players coming here to die seem to have stopped. I think the journos appreciate Websters accessibility and his general looks and sounds good on camera persona.

And I guess the NRL (media included) are probably waking up to the fact that the Warriors are a valuable commodity to the game.
