Silence from the club is deafening!
Not really. Reading between the lines, it’s fairly clear what the club wants, and that’s Boyd as 7.
Silence from the club is deafening!

If this is true that he is asking for permission to talk to other clubs before his 3 year extension has even started, watch the fan base turn on him.
I’d expect to see him named in NSW Cup this week and spend the rest of his time there!
But Mets is the kind of flashy pulling rabbits out a hat 7 that SJ was a lot of the time, and is both too brittle and too deficient in defensive skills to be a good 6. The club knows this. Mets is definitely a 7, and is definitely not a 6.

Picking Boyd as 7 and giving him a nice shiny brand new contract is the club saying we want Boyd as 7. We’re not stupid enough to mess what is just about with the best sequence of results we’ve ever had.

Assuming that Mets's agent isn’t stupid, he’s worked all of this out. So if he isn’t already exploring the market for him, he’s not doing his job.

Now if Tanah can make good use of a lot of place kicking practice, it’ll be happy days.

The key word about Metcalf is "potential". He's been paid handsomely by the club for potential after a lot of investment re rehab, etc. I think we'd all agree that this potential hasn't materialized yet. He's also older than Boyd, so this whole notion that "his ceiling is higher than Boyd" is not something that I agree with. We've seen how much Boyd has improved in just one off-season under Webby, are we really sure that given more years under webby, he won't continue to improve at the same pace? Fogarty, Cody Walker, etc weren't regular first grader until the age of 26/27. Boyd is only 25 so he is right on schedule to become one of the top tier halves of this competition given time.

I'm comfortable with the club's decision here.

Is there a club decision? I probably missed it in all these pages. Can you or anyone post it here?

So the guy who put himself in front of the team is going! Good riddance, Had a good paying job at the club who is in 2nd place? 7 at the Dragons is what he deserves!

The club could put him on ice to be ruthless about it. Easier to move him on if he signs before he breaks his next tin leg.

One Luke in, One Luke out? How does everyone feel about a Boyd/Hanson for the long term? CHT isn't looking to stick around long term at any one club it seems like. Boyd worked really well with Hanson in cup and they did a really good job in that Newy game where we put on a score.
Hmm Hanson Boyd look like they need a full preseason or a dozen NRL games to be something really competitive.

Dam the CHT situation is giving me the shits.

Our young halves will be seeing a way forward at the Wahs. Exciting for us.

Do y'all think we'll get anything official soon?

I assume webby will do the same thing he normally does during media day if nothing is made official "he's still contracted here, we'd love to see him play but fitting him in with so many playing so well is difficult but Metcalf is a team player". That sort of diplomatic stuff he is very good with.

Well, this escalated pretty quickly. The Fox Sports article for this was for a meeting and clarification. Mind you, that is playing it safe as we have seen many times in the NRL when a player or their management need to meet with the club it ends up with a request for a release eventually.

“It wasn’t anything confrontational. It wasn’t we want a release it was more, where do you see Luke Metcalf in the club’s plans and where do they see Metcalf playing,” Ritchie explained on NRL360.
“They aren’t talking walkout yet. The Warriors seem to think he could play six but I don’t think if you ask Luke Metcalf on the quiet if he wants to play six, he doesn’t, he wants to play seven.
“Luke thinks of himself as a seven and an elite seven. I’m not saying his nose is out of joint but I am saying someone has taken his spot and he wants to find out what his future is at the club.”

Some of the clubs mentioned do make me laugh though.

Eels (was mentioned at one point the last week). to partner Moses. Well that isn't halfback and he'd be where he was a few years ago when Johnson was mentoring him.

Bulldogs. Well, that would solve the Galvin debate. May not necessarily fix their issues. Probably put more players offside.

Sharks. To replace Hynes. He would have the right number but could have Trindall guiding them around the field.

It will be interesting to see the clubs stance on the terms of a release. For Barnett's release it seemed like they were fed up with compassionate releases. They may have thought he was an Australian/NSW rep player, so they may have thought they had some bargaining power.

It may not be a case from now on they want compensation. It may come down to what they feel their position is vs who they have available to step up. They let Walker go last year as they would have had young guys ready for more game time.

Metcalf is being asked to play in his old Jersey, not at prop forward or ruddy fullback even.

The old Warriors would have bent over backwards to accommodate a Star media darling type player, coz that is what minnow clubs do, because they can't attract talent and they can't risk upsetting their struggling ticket sales.

Top four clubs don't negotiate with Terrorists.

JFH is the reason why I'm not worried about all this Metcalf business. He will have the boys primed up and ready for the task at hand. Not to mention Barney and Capewell who are also experienced leaders in the club. We have enough leadership experience around the group to weather this. We did go through AFB, SJ and Tohu leaving in one off season and actually get better after all.
I love your optimism Sydney -a case of not breaking a record that has already gone for broke.

Add to that NRL experence in games: At age 27 Metcalf has played just 43 games - that is in indicator of his time spent injured rather than ability. At 25 years old, Tannah already has twice that number under his belt. He has also "done his time" in apprenticeship at Cup level without complaint.

Also a quick look in the rear view mirror show's real halfback talent coming behind in the shape of Jye Linnane and before him Jet Cleary. We are well served at halfback now and in the future whether LM stays or goes.

My greater concern is that Chanel has indicated through media that he wants only a 12 month contract. Not clear what that is about.
