Egan's ability to bring his forwards on to the ball has always been there. Our forward pack this year are finally laying a consistent platform for it to finally be on show for an extended period.

He has improved year on year though, and just ticked over 100 games which a lot of ex players talk about being of significance for players.

His only real worry is his durability, he could do with moving to a Smithers style of defence with a lot less throwing your head in where it doesn't belong.

Ya risk and reward assessment, there is not reward for putting your head to a prop’s elbow while tackling when you can do 15m no look passes from the ruck

At the minute yes but his last regular season game was a month ago.
He should win it but wouldn’t be surprised if hass, ponga or even hynes got it- they’ve been been creaming over hynes for a couple of years now- Harry grants another one- “the next Cameron smith” even though he plays more like Farrah.

I wouldn't be surprised if any of that lot got it over him.

But when outlets like Fox League are bringing out videos like:

I’ve always been very cynical about the dally m. The Clive Churchill as well- don’t think Ive ever agreed with the winner of that.
In saying that- if one of our boys win either of them- they got it 100% right

The team of the year is 1-13 so props, centres, wingers and second row have 2 winners. AFB and DWZ should almost be locked in to win in their own positions

Oh yes so it is - changed a couple of years ago, when they also got rid of interchange player of the year.

In that case I'd be shocked if we didn't have SJ, AFB, and DWZ, but stranger things have happened.

Three One New Zealand Warriors players have made the Rugby League Players’ Association’s Dream Team while two of the trio are among the five finalists for the prestigious Players’ Champion accolade.

On the back of picking up all three player crowns at the One New Zealand Warriors’ 2023 awards, the 33-year-old Johnson is at halfback in the Dream Team and is also a finalist for the Players’ Champion alongside teammate Addin Fonua-Blake.

The outstanding Fonua-Blake is also one of the props in the Dream Team while Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is one of the two wingers.

The Dream Team and the Players’ Champion are both voted on by the players providing the ultimate recognition of what Johnson, Fonua-Blake and Watene-Zelezniak have achieved in what has been a brilliant season for the One New Zealand Warriors.

Loose forward Tohu Harris, fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and hooker Wayde Egan would have garnered strong support from their peers as well.



The Warriors and the Broncos provide all five finalists for the Players’ Champion award with Johnson and Fonua-Blake joined by Brisbane’s Reece Walsh, Adam Reynolds and Payne Haas.

While the Warriors provide three players in the Dream Team, the Broncos have four, Penrith three, Melbourne two and Manly Warringah one.

Was just thinking about this discussion of yardage when some forwards are off the paddock. Egan's delivery of the ball to a forward on the charge has a big effect on yardage. He is a fantastic hooker IMO.

Can he wear two head gears and spray his mouthguard with liquid paracetamol? Other than his head knock propensity Ive enjoyed seeing him become a leader and organiser.

Hookers should have close to the highest tackle count, and being close to the ruck that are going to tackle the big guys. Head injuries go with the territory sadly.

He was suspended for 3 games.

Otherwise he is easily in the conversation for best fullback. He carved up a number of teams this season, including us and is a huge part of why the Broncos are playing the GF next week

One thing that I've just learnt & seems weird is that the top 3 in Dally M votes automatically make the Team of the Year but for the remaining positions overall Dally M points isn't the deciding factor. The person explaining it to me said a panel of judges meet at various points during the year & rate players in each position and collate that at the end of the season.
Anyone got an intel that differs?
Seems weird that guys like Isaako or Dominic Young, who probably got more Dally M points due to match winning performances, potentially miss out to an arguably better all round player like To'o, who gained less points. The opposite can happen though with the overall award though as we know that Jack Wighton wasn't the top player in the comp the year he won it & RTS probably wasn't in 2019 either

Tedesco ahead of cnk is a bit of a head scratcher but possibly bodes well for Sj because there were a few games I had cnk taking maximum points ahead of Sj but doesn’t seem the judges agreed.
