NRL NRL 2023 Finals Week 3 - General Discussion - Penrith vs Storm

Could be worth losing by a 1 score margin tomorrow and going out with pride and heads held high.

Penrith look on fire.
Gumon bro- everyone’s beatable- I’d farkin love another crack at the panthers- we can play so much better than we did in that first final and are obviously a different side with Sj there.
Broncos first up though and can’t afford to look any further than that.

It’s the Mighty Ducks story!

Get smoked in the first game but then meet them again in the finals, beat the evil overlords and dance / celebrate to “We are the Champions”!

Was the refereeing as bad as what social media made it out to be? Didnt watch unfortunately.

How the fuck did the Tigers beat this Panthers team earlier this year. Need to re watch that game to see what they done haha

Although I dislike Penrith for their show boating, god damn do I respect them for what they are achieving.

It was suggested on Radio that to win three Premierships in a row in the salary cap error is not far from matching the St George 11 in a row.

Obviously that's hard to quantify and is probably a stupid argument. But 4 grand finals in a row, probably 3 premierships in a row - it's the sort of run that could take 50 years or more to be matched by another team
It's made more palatable with the Ivan Cleary connection for Warriors fans I reckon

It was monsoonal conditions in that game, similar to the one we had against the Roosters.

Nah Yeo is a machine- years ago I used to say he was the most underrated player in the comp- everyone knows how good he is now though- very similar player to tohu.
Predictable result- storm were lucky to get past a depleted roosters side last week tbh.
Don’t have the grunt upfront anymore and grant and Munster are selfish players.
Right, now the curtain raiser is out of the way bring on the main event tomorrow! So excited I’m gonna struggle to sleep tonight (doesn’t help I’m on a boat in 5m waves 🤢)
It was interesting to see on the commentary how they felt the Storm need another big man to support NAS. They don't have the overall grunt up front or the game breaker they have had in the past. Their forward pack would be bigger than ours.

I just found it interesting when you compare it to our squad which is mobile and covers ground quicker. I know we have debated the need for another big man. An injury to AFB would be tough to replace. If we did sign someone you'd assume McFadden & Webster would want someone with a big motor and can still move well.

After the 6-again rule came in we had O'Sullivan wanting a big side arguing it worked for the teams that competed the Grand Final that year. We didn't replace Lodge's size and ended up with a more mobile side. The Panthers have a nice mix of size and mobility.

It was an interesting comment during the commentary like the Storm only need to fix one issue. Papenhuyzen's speed would help a lot as well.

Thought that game went as expected. Panthers too clinical. The Storm are really lacking in variation on attack and their defence is nowhere near what it once was. They managed to make the top 4 though, but I wonder how they go next season if they don't add any more to their squad. Kinda feels like they were living on the aura of the past and it's slipped away. Lucky not to get bundled out of the finals in straight sets.

Munster and Hughes in 6/7 yet had nothing. How many teams would kill for that combo.

Looked like a normal Warriors Reffing performance.

Unfortunately for the Storm they were cast as the Warriors in the set up.

It was refreshing last night having Matty Johns in the commentary. He was good paired with Cronk. He concentrated on the football instead of jokes like when he was on Channel 9.

After Matty Johns pointed out his service I spent some time watching the Penrith dummy half.

He provides great service. Serves it straight out to his halves. Grant is pretty much run first, yes he engages the markers with his little steps out before passing but it eats up time for his halves. He does win a lot of games for them with his damaging running.

But he has fallen apart a few times in finals when the pressure builds.
