Did Metcalf and Volkman get any time together in nsw cup in 2023? Volkman looking for a return and knowing our systems could be handy if he doesn’t feel like the club shat on him? Was pretty much the most consistent halfback in nsw cup last year and looked like a step up was on the cards. Perhaps had some defensive frailties, but had heart playing on with that busted finger against the sharks

Reading all this about SJ and his last year kind of reminds me Stacey Jones come back year. Feel kind of depressed as it is a shitty way for him to go out. Would have been nice if he retired last year and went out with an high instead of a whimper.
That's the highest hopes I've ever had for a season. When he came back, I literally made a post saying this is our year lmao.

There’s also Tuaupiki, but it was interesting how in nsw cup earlier in the season he was the main kicking option from fullback. Could we be looking at a whole new system when or if he joins the team or was it because he was the better boot than Hansen or whoever was there at the time? Or could Tuaupiki transition to 6?
I still need to see more of Tauapiki. His early season chances he got his timing in the sweep plays wasnt great but he definitely seemed to be more the fast feet create something from nothing type.....which is good.

I do think its criminal tho he wasnt given more gametime.....thats on the coach ,

I gave up when Jazz did a play of the ball error.

I also verbally moaned at his ineptness when CNK dived on DCE's grubber but skidded out of play in the wet conditions.

But I really gave up before the match started. I took an important phone call during the entire first half and only tuned in for the second 40 minutes.

AFB thrilled he is going to the Sharks next year
Capewell wondering what the fuck he has done coming here.

I’m for nowhere, he’s too slow for wing
I agree but you know AW is going to pick him somewhere in the backline. He can't play center and he is an attacking block at full back so at least at wing he can die with the ball without too many issues. Unless of course he gets pushed in to touch again

He’s also returned from another code. Probably got too much respect to blood him into a new position in first grade all season but I’m not sure how people are expecting consistency when he’s played pretty well all back 5 positions at some point over the season
I wrote on another forum that I read that Webby said RTS was a year away from being back at his best. He should've never learned a new position in first grade. Should've started in reserve grade to learn the positioning and all that. If he couldnt carve up down there then definitely not a centre. Which we have all seen this season. I will admit tho, he hasn't been consistently 1 position all year.

I posted way back when he was first signed that he should be made to earn his spot in fg.
He has been bought in on his previous RL form and doesn't matter where he has played isn't up to his previous best.
Tries hard but not going to win anything if we are relying on him
Standing in the way of younger guys getting experience

Yeah exactly. Poor decision by Webby coming back to haunt us. Unless we had no fullbacks and was coming to play there ay.

So just some clarity on Roger.
These are his statistics with reference to the entire competition:

Post contact metres: 11th
Tackle breaks: 15th
All runs: 21st
Run metres: 12th

He’s not in the top 50 for negative plays (errors, penalties).

This is a guy who was away from the game for a number of years with 1 pre season under his belt. When valentine holmes returned from the NFL on $1 million dollars, he was a flop. So much so, his guaranteed fullback jersey was taken from him & he was moved to centre. RTS is older, and putting up better numbers CURRENTLY.

I understand Roger is not the strike weapon we may have thought he’d be, but he’s hardly the reason we’re not playing well. I’ve seen approx 30% of games where the halves are passing the ball to Roger in space, this is where he excels. Not in the tight stuff. He’s also the 1st or 2nd player putting their hand up to get us out of trouble & consistently puts up high run metres, post contact metres & has minimal errors.

It’s the job of the halves to put Roger in space. They’ve failed to do this. Our middles have laid the platform, our backs have got us out of trouble, yet our halves continually fail to execute when we need them.

What is the role of halves? Under pressure, nail the right pass, put us in the right places on the field, put other players into space & set up tries with deceptive and well executed set plays.

The microscope is on our halves, not Roger. Let’s be clear about that. Another pre season under webby, and I’d expect to see a more polished RTS (IF the halves execute on THEIR role, and create space for one of the best game breaking centres in the comp).

Round 4 he took over fullback with CNK starting the season injured and think Tuaupiki picked up a knock against the raiders in round 3? He made good run metres but was woeful on defence. The next game against the rabbits is about the best we’ve looked all season I reckon, though the rabbits were in a lull. RTS played right wing for DWZ in that game with good run metres and no tackle misses

As I've said plenty of times, mediocre individuals will never understand it...

But your right, AFB is the first high performing player who has come to the club and left disillusioned with our professionalism. Definitely has never happened before. Anyway what does he know.. #bottom4baby

You really write some dribble sometimes...

AFB requested a release and was granted a release off the back of a Top 4 year, under a Dally M coach, playing with a Dally M Winger and Dally M 7 who should of won the supreme award.

He's a supreme talent but maybe he has a shitty attitude which is to the detrimen of the clubs he plays for? - how exactly is he a winner and where has he won (newsflash with us)?

Mediocre takes by Frank more like.

Um, just no. His stats are padded with time at fullback and wing. He isn't even close to a game breaking centre. He runs terrible lines. Ali, Berry and Pompey have all been put in to gaps and scored tries from a TMM pass. He is not up to speed defensively or in attack as a centre. Is he the reason for our poor season. No he's not. He is certainly a part of it though. Incidentally, our best run of form was without him in the team. He isn't even one of our top 2 centres at the club. I doubt too many other teams would play him there

There’s been plenty like the tigers Sullivan dropped early in the season not to return. Townsend just dropped from cowboys. Jack Cogger picked up by knights from panthers and hasn’t seen much time in first grade. A bad season by SJ’s standards, but plenty worse
I would have to say apart from 3-4 seasons most of SJs have been unfulfilled, if he was an Aussie he wouldnt compare to the johns, cronks, of the modern era.

Verbatim “My only motivation for this move is for family reasons"

But your amazing insights about the Last Dance & "Probably" definitely stack up. Definitely.
A classic call for anyone who wants to bail is to use the old “it’s for family reasons”

Without a doubt the driver is his wife
She wants to be in $ydney cause that’s where family is.
Because her family is not in Auck she doesn’t like it
Simple
Ok?
