Totally unrelated but I remember back in the day when he absolutely clothes lined Marc Ellis at MSS.. I heard Marc’s soul leave his body for a split sec… still remember that bone crunching hit to this day.. 😂
yeah.

That rattled my bones through the tv. It was a monster hit, nearly as big as Richard turner cutting Jonah lomu in half at north harbour stadium.

Gordon Tallis was one hell of a player in an era of genuine hard men playing the game. One of my favourite all time players along with Kevin campion.

Gotta frame the mental health arguments in context, perhaps I should have said something the other day, but I didn't want to shut down other people during a major fan vent and be that guy with mental health knowledge preaching. In my world any and all discussion of Mental Health is good.

There is no way on Gods green earth that a Warriors player gets suspended for breach of protocol related to a mental health issue.

Lets all be clear here. Webster would have asked for a please explain.

AFB had he hinted at mental health issues, had his family members raised any concerns in that sphere, had the team Doctor commented there is an issue (they have access to all players Medical records including GP, Psychiatrist, therapists consults) then the Warriors would have circled the Wagons.

No functional company that operates in the media spotlight treads on mental health legislation and the various other employment law acts that protect employees.

Being unhappy, frustrated, angry, disappointed, sad, unsatisfied, annoyed is not a mental illness, it is a normal reaction to situational factors in life for us all.

People keep comparing this to the stress they were under during their own unhappy employment experiences of the past.

The difference between that experience, and a Axis(i) diagnosis of a major mental disorder is that your mental distress can be relieved by life style changes (Addin Fonua Blake has a choice to leave the stressful work place and take a rest on his colossal salary unlike most of us - however we too have the choice to quit our stress causing job....people do it every day and they are not mentally ill).

So, I think it is very clear this is not a mental health dynamic (although mental health is a dynamic situation, and may come into play at any time - ergo people pointing towards a mental health explanation are not making irrelevant comment in this thread, by all means continue - this chain of events could trigger mental distress after the fact).

The Warriors would never open themselves up by punishing someone over a mental health related issue because under NZ legislation that is illegal they would also be in breach of contract, and they would be subject to a law suit, fines, NRL censure, media, a fan revolt etc etc.
Very concise and appreciated post @sup42. Dare I say whomever insinuated AFB has such issues you could DM them with "advice" as a form of retribution karma..

Thanks SUP, really appreciate you insightfulness

I’m positive I’m not losing that bet.
“oh what’s this? This prune-looking thing that I have hanging on my necklace? That’s a testicle that I won off @Classicrockdave on the nzwarriors forum. Yes, it is salty. How do I know? I have nibbled it, when I was bored. But that’s my choice. You would have that choice too, if you had the gumption to wager it fair and square and I will wear it as a badge from the AFB debate, all those years ago…”

I have a friend who talks exactly like this.

Good zinger.

You should confirm he has any left. Could be like one of those casino junkies and someone spotted him a testicle.

People keep comparing this to the stress they were under during their own unhappy employment experiences of the past. I get it, and I respect all the emphatic supportive comments in here of AFB and his family. I have had some work stress. I know how bad it can be. Very bad. Especially if you mix your priorities and stay on in a job like that, rather than make the obvious call....leave.

Someone who is mentally ill, could leave a stressful job and that alone will not address the biological drivers of mental illness like chemical imbalances and or psychological trauma/harm that requires professional help from the likes of therapy and or medication.

So, I think it is very clear this is not a mental health dynamic (although mental health is a dynamic situation, and may come into play at any time - ergo people pointing towards a mental health explanation are not making irrelevant comment in this thread, by all means continue - this chain of events could trigger mental distress after the fact).

The Warriors would never open themselves up by punishing someone over a mental health related issue because under NZ legislation that is illegal they would also be in breach of contract, and they would be subject to a law suit (an indefensible law suit with court fines and censure from a Judge) they would be in contravention of the human rights act, the health and disabilities code, the World health organization guidelines, locally they would incur NRL censure, loss of sponsorship, media lynching, a fan revolt etc etc.
So what's your read on the situation if not the above?
