Banks are regulated by the government/RBNZ and, it the moment, businesses applying for a loan have to prove how they will reduce their carbon footprint. Don't supply the information adequately or show that the CF would reduce enough and the banks will charge a higher interest for that loan. Provide the information, and the banks will charge a lower interest rate.

The simple fact many forget is Labour wasn’t funding these lunches past 2024 so anything this govt does to prolong it is for the better. Also why are the parents not feeding their kids? Another point, head,masters are saying the kids are turning their noses up at it and are being brought other food instead, pretty much tells me these kids are not hungry, the are fussy. A starving kid will eat just about anything. Headmasters and teachers should keep their opinions to themselves.

I had an argument last week with a 26 year old primary teacher on 75k a year who told me “why should I have teachers only days in the school holidays as I don’t get paid” I asked him what do you mean? Do you have no money paid to you for the holidays and his response was yes but it’s because they take money off my normal fortnightly wages and save it up for us when we have holidays. I told him that’s not how a salary works and he did not get it, he just said he would work during school holidays because he wasn’t getting paid for it
. We then worked out he only works 150 days a year compared to my 260. I told him he was basically on 150K a year then to which he didn’t understand that either. I hope to god he is not teaching the kids maths……….

Help me understand why the NZ govt needs to supply so many school lunches. This is totaly ridiculous when there are so many benefit options available with extra payments for unforseen hiccups. And yes I do know what I'm talking about having been on goverment assistance at times when I couldn't work and no-one wants to see kids go hungry. But are sufficient enquiries going into the reason a certain family cannot provide lunches for their kids. Ranting on this because I know families who are picking up this extra without having to first give up the booze, vapes or the three dogs ( which are kept for security purposes apparently ) & can afford to run 2 or more vehicles.
so in short imo it's just another bloody rort. As to the religious aspect of unsuitability if a person can't provide for their child they have no right to dictate. That's just taking the piss. Perhaps instead of community housing & tax paid lunches the Govt should think about something along the lines of the old style workhouse system.

The previous scheme employed hundreds of local people, the food was healthy, is made fresh at a local/community level and any extras were distributed within said community. It's a win:win.
The new scheme goes to a international corp. They don't care about the quality as is plain to see. It's all about bottom line and profit, which then go overseas.
The power of government finances is unparalleled. The failure to grasp this is precisely why we remain an economic backwater, prioritising short-term accounting over long-term well-being.

The flaw in your arguement is Labour only funded 25% of the schools.
If budgets and worthwhile causes is all that matter, why didn’t they fund 100%.
And why not fund all years of university instead of 1 year. And why not double the health budget. And why not double the police… etc, etc.
