He’s making more sense than any of the others… the bar is very very low however.
I’m politically most aligned to NZ first but never voted for them because Peters is self serving.

Has he mellowed with time? Or is this the start of re-opening the door with the left… time will tell.

Anyway if they carry on being the central NZ voice of reason they will win votes.

Nobody but a few fringe people cares until you post it and bought it to everyone’s attention 🤣

And the whole article is trying to defend her and focus on the invasion of her privacy - sorry, you did the crime. She has a history now and whenever she’s in a shop the system will be watching her extra carefully. Don’t like it? Don’t steal.

Even though she wasn’t convicted she had stuff in her bag and pretty much admits it. She shows her bad self centered attitude towards the victims of shoplifting and tries to divert attention away from herself saying: ‘Somewhat a bigger scandal for police, Foodstuffs and Auror than any of us having items in our totes in our trollies.’

Wrong attitude you self centered thief. I hope this system keeps watching her like a hawk!
The gravity of the actions of Tim Jago and the lengths that ACT went to cover this up or delay should be of greater concern to all.

Yet those associated with the far right in nz keep posting this crap. Marc Spring and Molloy

What's your thoughts on a deliberate breach of a system used for mass surveillance without permission that is supposed to be secure, that the police amazingly have unlimited access to without permission of those surveillance? And then continually leaked? Especially when the person has owned up, been prosecuted and now persecuted?
It's a left wing media hit job if it's a politician he likes and a nothing story if it's not.
Totally ignoring the very obvious breach of privacy and the implications around this.

Even Winston can be mature on this topic but a bit hard for this guy.

I wouldn’t assume it is exactly the same people doing both

Yes, a coverup is deplorable. And yes, just leave golriz alone, now that she has left parliament and owned up

But the people posting on 4chan aren’t necessarily the same individuals trying to cover up Jago. The 4chan guys are probably a bunch of young incels

Whatever the process the parents and government failed to do shouldn’t fall on this innocent kids shoulders.
This is cruel.
The people at immigration nz, who are so accurate in doing their jobs to the letter (to a fault, in this instance) should be redeployed to other areas of public service where their being 💯 pedantic is valued. Like KO, kiwi rail, etc

They seem to be the only govt department that is so good at their jobs that they have tidied up all of the bad immigration instances and are now chasing people with very minor infractions.

They should be in charge of KO, strictly adhering to the budget and booting out bad tenants as soon as they break the rules of their tenancies

The dumb thing about this whole golriz issue is that if the herald and nz media didn’t report on it, nobody would really even know. Instead, they’ve created public interest by publishing it

now that she has left parliament, owned up, taken it on the chin, who really cares what she does in her spare time?

If there are some people talking about her on 4chan, reporters and the media should just not even report it. I personally don’t care what some incel corner of the internet is doing

It's actually a window into how outlets like nzherald and stuff work. For the most part lazy journalism given how much they've cut back on actual journalists, poor editorial control and directives from their right wing owners to favour click bait

Both of those outlets, although they have some great individual journalists, are very right leaning and tend to support the neoliberal orthodoxy. NZME in particular throws it's weight behind Act and National more than any other political spectrum.

Luke Malpass, political editor at Stuff, actually belonged and maybe still does, to the New Zealand Initiative, a far right thinktank, extremely neoliberal, with ties to Atlas.

It's an issue that should rightly be covered in the media.

It's two fold (or more) -
1. the Aurora Retail Security system and mass surveillance being undertaken on the public by the grocery sector (despite the massive profits)

2. & somebody from the police, Aurora or the supermarket leaking and invading the privacy of a member of the public.

I agree with both points

I just think the Golriz reporting waters down the journalistic intent of raising awareness of privacy issues, as the Golriz angle is now getting more airtime and debate than the privacy aspect

100%. The investigation should be into how this supposed secure system leaked, and why do police get full access to it at any time for any purpose?

I’ve mentioned this before however a good mate is quite senior at Stuff, knows Luke Malpass etc. They have a very hard time recruiting opinion writers right of centre, they internally acknowledge they are left biased. It’s the opposite of what you claim.
