Iā€™ve mentioned this before however a good mate is quite senior at Stuff, knows Luke Malpass etc. They have a very hard time recruiting opinion writers right of centre, they internally acknowledge they are left biased. Itā€™s the opposite of what you claim.
I canā€™t remember where I read it (think it was some old journalist somewhere) that said journalism, by its nature, is a profession that tends to attract the free-thinking, left-leaning crowd, after they leave school and enrol in writing / journalism at uni. And it is obviously out of fashion to be right-leaning at uni, but even more so in the crowd that want to be journalists. So you end up with more left-leaning journos in the workforce

Yeah I think thatā€™s correct. Also with the structural decline of the industry itā€™s not a great paying job these days & I think that can also influence an individuals political bias at times.

100%. The investigation should be into how this supposed secure system leaked, and why do police get full access to it at any time for any purpose?
Who says it was from the system? Isnā€™t it public property anyway within the shop? She was in a public place and you donā€™t need permission for any photo in public places. Itā€™s not private or confidential and you donā€™t expect privacy.

If you came into a shop today I could take your photo and put it on the internet. Whatā€™s the difference?

You frequently see shops with photos of shoplifters on the wall. Whatā€™s the difference? Donā€™t like it? Donā€™t shop there.

Just trying to divert away from a thief getting caught againā€¦ Gol is the news here. The victim (shops) arenā€™t the problem - seems just like victim blaming going on - especially the abhorrent comments that the victims make a lot of money, implying itā€™s ok to steal from them. Very Gol thinking there.

sure wiz. deflect, deny, delusion. carry on.

Any anecdotes on the editors and editorial policies? Given NZME is pretty hard right.
This is an editorial piece from the herald showing their internal thinking. It basically bags the government and ends in this warped thinking:

ā€˜If banks see risk in continuing to do business with fossil fuel polluters at some point, then they must move to mitigate that risk.

Itā€™s not a ā€œwokeā€ choice, it is a statutory duty they have to their shareholders.

This Government has promised to make doing business easier for business. It should follow through on that commitment.ā€™

Itā€™s not banks place to play god with customers businesses - they are not moral police and what their customers do isnā€™t up to them to police - very left thinking.

Complaining about making it easier for banks to do business is totally blind to the fact the banks are stopping legal businesses doing business.

There is no statuatory risk dealing with legal customers. Flawed woke thinking.

Totally woke left editorial highlighting the editorial stance of the herald.

Banks are private businesses. They can do what they want. That's how private business works.

Turns out climate change and the impact of fossil fuels is real. Turns out the banks and insurance companies are far less concerned about populist fake culture wars like labelling anything they don't like as "woke" and far more interested in protecting profits.

Who knew? Turns out the banks and insurance companies do.

Fuck Brian Tamaki and his Destiny thugs. This is fascism in New Zealand. This is populism. This is a form of the authoritarian right.

Big men picking on women and children.

This is the fake culture war manifesting as violence and intimidation.

The fascist right claim free speech, but only for themselves, and only for them to belittle, demean and be assholes.

Iā€™ve seen first hand the good Destiny can do but this isnā€™t it.

This is poor but just more of the dumb, desperate stuff protesters do for attention. Same level as the Green led Posie Parker eyesore.

Media should ignore them all and take away their platform.

Not really. There are still discrimination rules, human rights, reserve bank rules, etc. Everyone has a right to have their basic needs met in our economy and banking is a need not a want service.

Admittedly the reserve bank rather than politicians should be ensuring banking services are available for all legal businesses.

Our whole financial system relies on banks. If banks start de-bank businesses they donā€™t like (eg Gloriavale), arenā€™t those businesses going to transition onto the black market?

Sounds like you're advocating having a government run bank! But the bank is a business. It chooses who it goes into business with. That's how it works.

Unless there is a government mandate of a government owned business to engage with fossil fuels, government interference!

Absolute bullshit. Banks tried to force net zero as a political stunt and tool of coercion. Of which now they fleeing.

Secondly again, quoting rising insurance costs as proof of climate change is straight up retarded.

As @miket12 has repeatedly shown, the cost of building houses has grown rapidly, which is the case everywhere. Which means the costs to replace has grown significantly. Not only that but we are cramming more buildings in less suitable areas for building.

If your terrible thesis was actually true, then you would need less density and falling values correlated against rising premiums to show that it is external risk.

This is the state of things. Another half a billion dollar development going up at sea level on a known flood plain with documented flood cycles.

Iā€™m sure when the pool underwriting is done and premiums go up another 15%, the usual suspects will trot out the ā€œcLImaTe ChANgeā€ mantra

You neoliberals donā€™t understandā€¦ government needs to ensure societyā€™s base needs are met through regulation and not leave it to big business to set the moral standards of the country. Banks donā€™t have morals.

Us centralists understand that government has a place. You far right advocates would let the banks de-bank poor people just because there is no money in them. Whatā€™s next de-bank the homeless?

Not the NZ I know, you neoliberals can move to America. šŸ˜‰
