We're many different people and one people at the same time. It is a matter of fact that the chiefs who signed Te Tiriti did NOT cede sovereignty. Waitangi tribunal finding:
βThe rangatira who signed te Tiriti o Waitangi in February 1840 did not cede their sovereignty to Britainβ, the Tribunal concluded. βThat is, they did not cede authority to make and enforce law over their people or their territories.β
The rangatira did, however, agree βto share power and authority with Britainβ.
You not liking that, or David Seymour not liking that does not make it less true.
The Waitangi Tribunal has released the Stage 1 report of the Te Paparahi o Te Raki Northland Inquiry.
