It is, but compared to where? Lot more stunning landscapes out there, but we're a reasonably safe country for tourists comparative to a lot of places.
Visited Hawaii earlier this year. Went expecting a tropical paradise but South Islands better!

Plus we have laid back friendly people, unique flora and fauna, māori culture, etc.

One of the few places in the world you can ski in the morning and surf in the afternoon with a dip in a mud pool on the way through!

Yea it’s not a small backwards country anymore - more crime, people, problems, etc, but the fundamentals don’t change.

What's the cost of installing nuclear generation in a country our size?
The Vogtle 4 reactor in Georgia, US, cost $USD 30 billion ($NZD 48 billion) to build and it would provide power to 500,000 houses (around 1/4 of NZ households). That's a cost of $NZD 96,000 per household to build.... slightly more than solar at $8,000 - $15,000 per household (depending on the number of panels and batteries).

Bloody freezing down here half the year though mate, that won't change. Good for winter sports but we'll never offer what the mediterranean can with the climate and thousands of years of history. Landscapes and māori culture are about our only uniqueness. And fecken hobbits.

We’ve been big in adventure tourism but competition worldwide’s catching up.

Our landscape is world leading - mountainous, volcanic, geothermal, lakes, glaciers, etc.

I think our biggest asset is we have such a world class variety in close proximity. You can travel a few hours and have really different and unique experiences, more so than most of the world.

One issue I have is we targeted the high end (didn’t want freedom campers shitting everywhere) but the high end have ultra high standards that we’ve struggled to cater to (lack of high end accomodation, etc). Need more quantity again in a sustainable way.
