šŸ¤– AI Summary

šŸ“ Summary:

The thread centers on New Zealand's upcoming election, primarily debating the economic management and policy differences between the center-left Labour government and center-right National/ACT opposition. Key criticisms target Labour's fiscal stewardship, citing ballooning government expenditure #7#272, housing unaffordability, and unfulfilled promises like KiwiBuild and dental care expansion #16#12. A user #7 highlighted Labour's annual 9% spending growth versus 1.5% under previous governments, arguing this fueled inflation. National's tax-cut policy faced scrutiny over funding gaps and legality, with user #215 questioning Luxon's reliance on "trust me" assurances.
Leadership competence emerged as a critical theme, particularly in later posts. Luxon drew heavy criticism after a contentious interview where he struggled to defend policy details #194#199#211, while Willis faced backlash for her economic credentials. Hipkins garnered fleeting praise for articulation but was ultimately seen as representing poor governmental outcomes #45#119. A trusted user #308 presented expert economic analysis contradicting Treasury optimism. Infrastructure issues—like Wellington's water crisis and the dental school staffing shortage—were cited as examples of systemic mismanagement #235#12. Notable policy debates included road-user charges for EVs #220, immigration impacts on rents #299, and coalition scenarios involving NZ First #182#258. Early fringe discussions on candidates' rugby allegiances gave way to substantive policy critiques, culminating in grim Treasury forecasts discussed in posts #271#304#308. User #168 also revealed concerns about Labour rushing regulatory changes to entrench policies pre-election.

your words were;
ā€œIt's all about the public good marv.ā€

and i said the public voted them in.
and that their vote means just as much as yours.

those who voted for them are getting what they voted for.

if you don’t understand that, then i don’t know how to help you.
The public didn't vote on repealing smoking legislation at all...

No parties campaigned on it to the public & it turns out it had a tiny mention in the NZF manifesto.

NZF only got 6% of the vote. It's disingenuous to say those who voted got what they wanted. That a lobby sector can influence a party and health policy should concern any reasonable person.

Exactly

One thing just to remember with all this is that these lazy terrible parents were once the kids without guidance. The problem is generational.
Juju's offence to anything I post blinded him to the essence of what I was saying. which is this. Its generational, but it can be overcome as seen in studies. Its takes 3-4 generations but its achievable with enough targeted education.

Awwwww freedom of speech for me but not for thee.
ACT party moto.
Scum can't handle it now
Freedom of speech doesn’t extend to abusing people’s race, or questioning their racial identity. There are plenty of restrictions of freedom of speech.

Like telling the flight attendant that you are carrying a bomb

During general debate in May, Te Pāti Māori MP Mariameno Kapa-Kingi said ā€œE te Minita, ka aroha ki a koe kua karetaohia e tō pāti. Kia kaha rāā€.

It was only when reading the translated Hansard of this statement later that Chhour understood the meaning of the remarks, which was: ā€œTo the minister, how sad that you have been made a puppet by your party. Be strong.ā€

Chhour told the Herald she complained to the Speaker about the incident, as well as others, where she felt she was being subject to ā€œbullying behaviourā€ rather than being attacked on issues of policy.

It’s not an isolated incident. TPM have been running a campaign of questioning her ā€œMaorinessā€ and upbringing, because her political stance on māori matters does not align with theirs. Like a race traitor. She’s ā€œnot a true māoriā€ is the agenda they have been pushing, of which this incident is an example of

They don’t give Peters and Shane Jones the same treatment

Fuck you're embarrassing, support the māori party's freedom of speech clown, or just come across as a racist like you are. Hahahaha

How the fuck is that bullying the woke scum

Chhour is māori and was bought up in the state system with foster parents.

A TPM social media post:

ā€œIf Section 7AA were around in Karen Chhour’s time, she would have been raised Māori, she would have been raised being connected to her whakapapa and having a knowingness of her Māoritanga. Instead, she was raised Pākehā with a disconnection and disdain for her... people.ā€

A deeply personal attack throwing rubbish at Chhour commenting on her personal upbringing and saying she is not the right kind of Māori.

Very unbecoming from a political party.

We’re all people - nothing good comes from dividing us up by race.

Is there any evidence of this social media post from TPM? Can't seem to find it anywhere.

EDIT: Found more on it. Terrible wording from the TPM socials page, but putting a social media admins words on the whole party is a bit far on your guys behalf. Was probably some lippy intern šŸ˜‚

It’s the māori parties objective to create divisions around race. If race was irrelevant they wouldn’t have a platform so they need to take a default divisive position to remain relevant.

Some examples of their coarsening of the tone around race relations:

māori party MPs: ā€˜coalition government have a "mission to exterminate Māoriā€

MP’s repeatedly using the words "white supremacy" and "Pākehā supremacy" when criticising the repeal of section 7AA of the Oranga Tamariki Act.

ā€˜It is a known fact that māori genetic makeup is stronger than others.’
