Not trying to be difficult here but doesnt this open up the ability (and the competitive part of me would definitely consider this) just before the round shuts im looking at who has put in black sheep bids (regardless wither their 12 miliion or 100k), im putting in matching bids (even tho i have no interest in wanting those players) cause i dont want my competitors getting an extra 400k?No we have this sorted now. Good idea though but we will roll with relying on the threat of someone deliberately tieing your bid as being the disincentive to someone bidding $12M on Brandon Smith.
I’d look at it a bit differently - in an open bid round it would be strategically a much better idea to wait till as close to the bidding closing as possible to bid on a player that hasn’t been bid on that you want. This would particularly apply where the eligibility question is a bit tricky. If you bid early on a top player then expect to be matched. Not trying to be difficult here but doesnt this open up the ability (and the competitive part of me would definitely consider this) just before the round shuts im looking at who has put in black sheep bids, im putting in matching bids (even tho i have no interest in wanting those players) cause i dont want my competitors getting an extra 400k?
And this comes at no risk to me in either using my cap or attaining players i dont want.
Yes -but while that might stop them getting them as a black sheep pick they can counter bid you and raise their bid and still get that player just not as a black sheep. Remember you can only tie bid a particular player once so you can use a tie bid to stymie an attempt on a black sheep but you can't keep stymieing that player repeatedly if that makes sense.

Seen as the rules have now changed AFTER i bid, can I change my blocking bid for Latrell Mitchell to only match it?Yes -but while that might stop them getting them as a black sheep pick they can counter bid you and raise their bid and still get that player just not as a black sheep. It could be that black sheep picks are very rare in the open auctions and only seen more often in the silent auctions and that is ok.
It is up to you to choose your strategies Boats n Hoes. I warned at the start there will be double crossing in this game and people throwing you under a bus. And I asked everyone to stay polite and not get snipey if someone does a machevellian move on you.
This game is very strategic and allows for both white hat strategies and black hat strategies.
Does that help?
But the blocking and matching bid rules were introduced hours after I bidNo 5 minutes have passed. You can edit a bid in 5 minutes only.
Sorry. You choose to make that $1.01m bid and it is not so excesive that you will be under water if you end up with him. You are still well in the game. I would put Latrell at centre and not full back in your line up. $1M is not so out of whack that I need to intervene in proceedings. But the blocking and matching bid rules were introduced hours after I bid
Gun player. Multiple people will outbid us anyway!Sorry. You choose to make that $1.01m bid and it is not so excesive that you will be under water if you end up with him. Yeah i understand that.Yes -but while that might stop them getting them as a black sheep pick they can counter bid you and raise their bid and still get that player just not as a black sheep. The silent auctions are going to determine the black sheep bonuses. Everyone should be matching bids as much as possible in the open rounds to stop any advantage extra cash givesYeah i understand that.
But i still wouldve acheived my sole intent to stop someone else getting 400k added to their kitty. I could care less if they counter bid and get that player. It is as you say Black Sheep picks will be very rare....i guess lets let it play out, u can always adapt the rules as we go along.
Even if we didn't allow matching bids to stymie black sheep in the open auctions it was eventually going to dawn on all of you from a game theory perspective that you needed to stop black sheep at all costs even if that meant outbidding by $1K to make them bid again if they really wanted that player. Game theory demanded that you as contestants find a way to limit them as they are so game changing. Understand my drift? The silent auctions are going to determine the black sheep bonuses. I guess thats what you had to weigh up tho....spoiling a black sheep pick v the risk of ending up with a player you didnt really want.Even if we didn't allow matching bids to stymie black sheep in the open auctions it was eventually going to dawn on all of you from a game theory perspective that you needed to stop black sheep at all costs even if that meant outbidding by $1K to make them bid again if they really wanted that player. We’ve got till at least 6pm NZT don’t we?Muddogz and Naumaifooty please make your bids soon. (unless you are strategically waiting to the last minute)
The reason we didn't run with relying on $1K increments to stymie black sheep is because of the use case M Brownstown found of someone bidding $10M on Brandon Smith and no one daring to go $10.001M - when we do the game review we will think of a better approach. Inruin suggested the reward for a black sheep pick should be a deduction of $400K off the price and while this may be a better suggestion for next time it is fundamentally a different game and the strategy has been cast on this for months now. Next time we can make some changes. This will be fun its own way and you will all come to enjoy it. As you say you are happy to let it play out. Thanks for being chillI guess thats what you had to weigh up tho....spoiling a black sheep pick v the risk of ending up with a player you didnt really want.
Now there is no risk,
But happy to let it play out.
