Social Wrighty presents Forum Sheep game for 2024 - Round 12 Underway

Thanks Wrighty.
Does Henry Paul's Rugby Union career affect your opinion of him?
2 Test wins over Australia at Hooker and being unbeaten in his 5 Tests vs GB/England shows he was far from mediocre. Versatility galore. Rightly, or wrongly, he's a certainty in my #14

it was just food for thought. He can certainly cover more positions than nearly any other utility i can remember !

"Hard men first 30 minutes and skill to close last 60?"

I am just spit balling here. Do you want to commit to that motif because there are two pairs to decide here
Gallen hard as nails and Murray's speed
Thorn hard as nails and McGahan's finesse

In terms of making sure you have considered every angle - is a bob each way an option? Ie in one pair the hard man starts and in the other pair the ball player starts. Or will both ball players compliment each other and need to be on the field at the same time?
This is great advice for a real life game debate. Number of minutes; who starts to get most impact; game plan and tactics.

I think it will go over voters heads. I simply need my best players in the starting line up for name recognition rather than how to use them?

You must make this call - if you want to have your best players in your starting 13 then do so. Trust your thoughts not mine or it could lead to a regret on voting day.

For shits and giggles to make sure you have thought of every combination. If Murray is simply not starting 13 material then here is another look.
1) Thaiday back to right edge at 11
2) McGahan to lock
3) Bench of Gallen/Murray/Tapou/RTS

Here are some other factoids McGahan played roughly 50% of his career at 2nd row vs lock. But when he played tests he was largely a lock. 22 appearances at lock 8 at second row. Lock is part of the modern day spine and your best proponent there is McGahan.

All three of Thaiday/Thorn and Mcgahan favoured playing left edge at 12. Of the three Thaiday from my spot checking random games was the most likely to pay 11 as well so there is that from an edge preference perspective.

Lastly Thaiday and Thorn have chemistry together with Thaiday at 11 and Thorn at 12 in the heady days for the Broncos when they were all powerful.

The downside is now you have two players who were primarily locks on the bench with Gallen and Murray but given Gallen can also play prop and did so in tests this should work out ok.

A clarification question has come in about any other categories not named. eg Daly M in 1988 for award x And those are out of scope. It is just the people named in positions. Eg Daly M halfback of the year. Daly M fullback etc.

It's been a bit of FOMO after those first few rounds with some of the prices players went for. I think you could make a pretty competitive team or two out of the players still left as well
Press release:

Wizards demolition squad is together now trialling combinations in preseason. Without the focus on recruitment the team is using the extra time to solidify selections.

Gallen has reported a minor hamstring strain but we’re pumping in the ‘totally legal’ peptides and he should be ready come finals.

Ridgy is leading training with his competitiveness showing through. Betham has almost decked the cock shit multiple times but the coach is channeling that competitiveness into high intensity training sessions.

The immortal Meninga is practising his big fend and boasting he’s going to score a hat trick running over his opposition centres. Jones is threatening to us him to draw defence and cut out big Mel so the even bigger Vatuvei can steamroll 3 tries himself!

The team is pumped and can’t wait for the playoffs!
