Social Wrighty presents Forum Sheep game for 2024 - Round 12 Underway

Let me be a good consultant by asking you some focussing questions

The pack looks good with the key questions being

1) Who out of Thorn or McGahan starts and who comes off the bench
2) Who plays 14 out of Murray or Anasta?

You give me your detailed analysis first on those two questions and I will mull over and respond to your response. And as mentioned before the consulting must be in the thread for transparency.

I don't rate Murray. I think he is an elite NRL player and goes invisible at Test Match level. He would be a weak link to exploit that would be discussed in team talks.

I have the exact same questions!

I pride my lineup on having an underlying theme summed up as: competitive, intensity and intimidation. A bunch of thugs that will bully and smash the opposition. My squad averages over 100kgs per play. Big humans:

8 - P. Harrogan 111 kg - enforcer
9 - M. Betham 94 kg - pro boxer
10 - R. Wiki 104 kg - enforcer (ask Soliola)
11 - S. Thaiday 112 kg - enforcer
12 - B. Thorn 116 kg - enforcer
13 - P. Gallen 104 kg - pro boxer

14- C. Murray 96 kg - most sent off players around - perfect!
15 - M. Taupau 111 kg - strongman
16 - H McGahan - 100kg?
17 - R Tuivasa-Sheck 96 kg

Murray suits my style better than Anasta. No contest, regardless of who might be the better player. I see Murray replacing Gallen to speed up the game.

Thorn vs McGahan? I honestly don’t know. Thorn is hard and takes no prisoners. Toughness personified. Seems the qualities of a starter to me? Mcgahan with more speed and impact from the bench? But I’m really asking is should McGahan force his way into the starting line up? For Gallen?

I don’t know? Help me out?

U reckon?

Im not a huge fan of Braith's and while both we're ball playing 13s Braith played a lot of standoff. Ive no doubt Murray could play a role at six too but Braith also had a decent kicking game which for me would make the difference.....especially for a utility.
Wizards has his mind up but I think Anasta covers three positions while Murray only covers two and since we are talking about the bench this is a paramount difference,

Murray is unbeaten in 3 Test vs the Kiwis & scored the match winner in the RLWC Semi-Final. I'd be more inclined to think any discussions from the opposition would be more about shutting him down rather than exploiting him.
That said, Anasta wearing #14 has its merits

I am going to answer a question with a question.

Do you want some of your hard nose guys on the bench to come on after thirty minutes and bully the tiring opposition while some of your softer/ or "speed" players if we call them that start?
Or do you want to start all guns blazing with the fireworks and smoking big hits up front followed by the finesse of Murray and McGahan later.

As I am about to advise Cces when I give him advice - the contestants in the black sheep game have picked very even 1-13s and I think the bench is going to decide the podium. So what I am saying is take your time. I am here to bounce this back with you until you get comfortable.

Wait what?
He does not cover lock or 6 at all.

RTS covers all the outside backs. Elite Fullback, Elite Wing, so so at centre but can cover there if an injury. That is all.
I wouldn’t hold Anasta and RTS. It’s one or the other.

I don’t value Anastas lock cover as the other reserves cover that. Anasta played a handful of games at lock but 90% in the halves.

RTS covers 5 back positions (and potentially stand-off)
Anasta covers 2 half positions.

I disagree RTS couldn’t cover lock if injury enforced.

I reckon Cam Murray is one of the most overrated players currently in the NRL, however Bwaith peaked in his rookie season & then underwhelmed for the rest of his career.
Ok given you realistic view of Murray which I concur with about Murray I am more on board with your views.
If Radley were Australian the Aussies would be picking him over Murray.
I am also not convinced that Murray walks into a full strength Kiwis pack.

Probably

I guess it depends on the opposition and tactics?

Based on my team physically dominating every other team here, we should grind them down and slaughter them when the game opens up.

Hard men first 30 minutes and skill to close last 60?

Ok. Murray over Anasta. Probably a safer option with the voters.

I rate Radley even less - Yeo far superior to both of them. Radley is a media hyped dribbler.

"Hard men first 30 minutes and skill to close last 60?"

I am just spit balling here. Do you want to commit to that motif because there are two pairs to decide here
Gallen hard as nails and Murray's speed
Thorn hard as nails and McGahan's finesse

In terms of making sure you have considered every angle - is a bob each way an option? Ie in one pair the hard man starts and in the other pair the ball player starts. Or will both ball players compliment each other and need to be on the field at the same time?
