The Taine tackle in the in goal they have a proper grievance about - shocking call. Taine knew it too. That was a clutch play rubbed out by an incorrect call.

But, this is the game. They got the Shibasaki tackle penalty which was dubious and the other call when dragging TMM into touch was fair, I thought his momentum stopped which is why it needed an extra (and obvious) drag.

Broncs fans I think are struggling with the fact that they should be challenging for premierships but really they are now in a top 8 scrap.
Paid overs for Walsh at the back who quite frankly looks totally washed - this injury layoff probably comes at a good time for him because he was not far from being dropped.
Yeah, reckon the biggest dud call against them was the TT drag... but they're most salty over the forward pass call for the try just before the half ... the way the game was going I don't think it would have mattered if they were award that anyway, in my opinion we really were on top and would have done exactly what we did do in the second half with grinding and long kicks ... can't re-litigate any of this now anyway - just think the game was called fairly evenly, there was no obvious favourite, and luck was going all their way for the walsh try ... that was knocked on in goal by arthurs ... instead overturned by the bunker... jeez give me strength, that's the refs playing for golden point

Just watched the replay.

One thing I noticed is defending players tackling and then standing in the PTB.

There were a couple of times that Egan couldn't pass to the left (without moving) because a broncos player was standing in the way.

No doubt there will be examples of our players doing it too, but it seems like a really coachable way to clog up the opposition attack and force them down certain lanes.

those drag backs were penalised for a second man flopping in to help, always a penalty.

so many forward passes on line breaks are let go it was surprising to see one called back.

Carrigan should have been binned in the first half for lying in the ruck every time.
And that kind of play is especially important in the wet. As you mainly drive your attack through the dummy half and not your 6 or 7 in those conditions. Really smart to them, but I wonder if there is a way we can get a penalty out of it... Maybe dummy run it they are off the mark.

Edit: whoops that was meant to be a reply to @FormerlyJamesW above.

I'm not sure how you'd force a penalty out of it, and you have to be careful as the NRL took a stance out of stuff like throwing the ball into the defending player.

Maybe there's confusion about what being off the mark looks like? Seems like it'd be obvious; impacting the PTB whilst not being in front of it.

In the situation of a player being 'stuck' in the ruck, I'd be happy if the rule was that they had to stay on the ground until the PTB had moved on a metre or so (run or pass).

I dunno, maybe I'm just being reductive.

Question. How was the Taine tackle in the in goal a shocking/incorrect call?

I haven't re-watched the game (yet), but vividly recall thinking Ennis was plain wrong in the commentary with a similar statement. Taine's ball-carrying arm had hit the ground outside of the in-goal, so the tackle is over at that point. Then Shibasaki came in, joined the tackle and gave him another shove. Different if Taine is on his back / knees / other arm, but his ball-carrying arm had hit the ground and it is therefore a penalty.

Once the ref explained it to Hunt, they didn't push Reynolds challenge it - that, for me, is telling. As soon as the ref had finished responding to the "what the?!" from Hunt (I had the same reaction initially too), Hunt just shrugged it off and walked away.

A good read for any of you out there who don't think we should have got a penalty at the end there 🤢

LMAO. "Why not just have the game flow and restart from the 20m with a simple tap? No harm done, no major disadvantage to either side.". Its meant to be major risk, major reward. At that stage in the game, the diffrence of 5 meters in the kick can win or lose you the game. Because that allows the opposing kicker to get 5 meters closer. Remove the risk and that will result in every kicker aiming to go as deep as possible, giving the kicking side an unfair advantage. I for one do not want golden point to be decided via the coin toss.

The worst writers I have ever seen. This takes the cake

In a golden point scenario, bad luck shouldn’t be the thing that decides the game.

Taines own reaction summed it up, he knew he got lucky.

His momentum never stopped. When you compare to the other incident that required extra force to get TMM out.

Perhaps it's a grey area and was a home team call but watching it again it still feels the wrong call was made.

If it were us we would be fucking spewing

Execute your skills or face the consequences. He had a 50m x 60m area to aim at and missed. That's not bad luck.
When Mitch won the toss to choose which way to play in golden point, I turned to the guy next to me and said that it could be the best coin toss to win this season, given the breeze (even though it had died down). Mitch then took the catch to play it dead and the guy asked if I was part of a Pakistani spot-betting syndicate.
