Post Match Warriors v Dragons - [Round 24, 2025]

🤖 AI Summary

📝 Summary:

Warriors fans express relief at defeating the Dragons to secure a top-4 finals spot, though the win is widely criticized as ugly and unconvincing, with members #7 #8 #33 calling it one of the club's worst victories. Concerns dominate discussions about inconsistent player form—Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Roger Tuivasa-Sheck earn praise for strong carries #58 #34, while Jackson Ford, James Fisher-Harris, and Pompey face scrutiny for errors and penalties #54 #71 #87. Broader team challenges include inefficient attacking structures #24 #42, questionable bench rotations #46 #60, and doubts about playoff competitiveness against elite teams #23 #71. Despite the criticism, one member #114 argues the Dragons were resurgent opponents and highlights defensive resilience in the final quarter, crediting improved middle-forward efforts. Others debate Backline experimentation #80 #126, though consensus remains that the win's significance outweighs its flaws for finals qualification #15 #53.

After a sleep and reflecting on last nights game, the weekend is looking better. We’re in the top 4 baby, and it’s ours to lose!

At the start of the year, would I have taken this, hell yeah. The Dragons turned up to play as Monty kept saying during the commentary, but we stuck to them and didn’t let it get away through scramble, heart, some good jamming, individual moments, playing for each other and not giving up. When Sloan made the break how many warriors were getting back? And to be there for the jam defence by Rog was epic.

Credit to the club for bringing through players, NSW cup team for developing a great second line and head coach for creating heart. We’ve had many years where players gave up.

Clubs in a good state, let’s stay in fight and see what happens. Up the Wahine!

Was that a top 4 attacking performance? He'll no.
Was it a top 4 defensive effort? I think yes.
The scramble and commitment we showed for each other was immense albeit a Dragons team losing players but we are stretched too.
I thought defensively Ford was huge Dal, Chanel, Charnze Vaimauga all tackled their best they went scorless in the second 40.
We are still clunky in attack, the structure has gone out window but we are only one pass or link from getting close with Taine running very beautiful lines Ford and Vaimauga nearly going in!
Ford,Jfh, & leka among others had butter fingers but the effort was clearly there, better to be clunky now and still win than in the finals I feel that we need to stick with Boyd and just work that next pass/build him moving forward no point chopping and changing now give him the keys but Healey is also a key component too.
Ford was everywhere on defence.

I think context needs to be added around the "win"

They were playing with no bench forwards from the 30th minute.

Two of their 19 year old forwards played the full game pretty much.

They were clearly the better team but just ran out of gas at the end due to no rest.

I don't think it takes a genius to identify that we will be out in straight sets come finals (and probably don't win another round robin game). That's where the disappointment lies.

I don't think anyone is disappointed about collecting two points.

Last 20 mins we were good, take that form into next week and forward.

That did have a Dolphins finish written all over it again though
I believe they will take heart from this win (even though errors were horrific or because of that fact). They have turned the three losses around and can look ahead with some confidence. Irrespective of where they end up, they can hold their heads up.

This game was being built as the season definer must win. Pressure was on the side and also the occasion of Indigenous Round. Our previous experiences on Anzac day in Melbourne proves the case that we are nervous starters and then try too hard. Mistakes happen under those circumstances.
The first half was like watching the side wading through mud, whatever was said at half time obviously worked even allowing for the Drags shortened bench.

We needed that win for a lot more reasons than just the 2 points.
I for one never thought we would be in this position at the start of the season.
Well done all

The number of errors last night was horrendous, quite out of place with the season as a whole. But what was so pleasing was the desperation to win which has been there since round 2. We are currently sitting above a number of teams who's rosters were talked up at the beginning of the season and were picked to do better than us.

Good assessments there.
Wrighty
How do you think Ford would go with two twenty minute segments per game?
I reckon his error rate would be greatly reduced.
He has a great motor -I have gone from critic to fan.

I like him waaayyy more in the middle as a prop....when he was a 2nd rower on the fringes thought he didn't bring much, add in his error and penalty rate and in my opinion he wasn't worth it.

At prop he at least makes less handling errors because he gets more simple passes most the time and the angles he runs allows him to make decent metres when hitting up. Think it's definitely his best position.

As much as we were playing to get back into the top 4, dragons were playing to keep their season alive. They remind me a bit of us last year where they lost a heap of games by narrow margins and would be in the top 8 if they got them

Whilst I think the combination of Barnett/Metcalf ended any real chance this year, we are about to have a very small injury list in the next couple of weeks with players coming back. I'd be ecstatic with top 6 on the ladder and top 6 in the finals. If we had a couple of really good signings coming in next year, I'd honestly be happy with our lot right now.

Ford is one of the first guys I'd write on the team sheet. He is the everywhere man, and the energy he brings to the team is under-appreciated by some. I think Webby just needs to get his minutes right.

Halasima was a weird one last night. I'd actually like to see him have a breather in NSW Cup for a bit of a break next week. Tear it up and come back into the finals fresh.

Well said "Ever", I particularly like our run home also.
Rather be us than the doggies.

Kicking ability is the difference. We must have kickers at 6 and 7. I would start TMM at fullback and put Taine back to cup
Ye I’d go with that too. The best attacking shape we’ve thrown all year was way back in that trial against the storm. Yes I know it’s a trial against a weaker storm side, but it was still killer shape. I thought webby had everyone fooled because the week earlier we played like dog shit against the sharks, with that boring conservative gameplan. And then the week after we come out with this amazing attacking shape with Martin out the back, sweeping both sides the park creating for both edges. and we never go back to that. He doesn’t need to make 200 metres he needs to create points in good ball and that’s what he’ll do.

Would have run them down earlier and been a bit more comfortable if our forwards stopped dropping the ball on play 1-2 all the time.

Good energy in defence.

2 reasons that wasn’t an obstruction,

1) he goes for Niukore who while on the outside shoulder is almost through the line and never going to get the ball, should have just slid without the acting if he was still in the way would have been called back.

2) it’s a bloke named Lyhkan King-Togia. If his names Moses or Cleary or Hughes - red lights.

Whole lot of moaning that a team of battlers and rookies is running 4th.
