I didn't think we were that bad until we had both centres out. Most teams are going to struggle in that situation. These multiple injuries in a game have hit us so many times this year.
Reffing is one thing, but I just find the modern rules so fucking annoying to watch as a fan. It honestly puts the on-field referees on a hiding to nothing. Though all the second efforts by the Dogs were a bit on the nose tonight.
Consistency changes on high contact, and the introduction of force as a component. Mitigation and force should be part of an expert assessment, we saw that in the initial lawsuit fearing crackdown during Covid with players being sent off for completely unavoidable high contact. However, the bunker refs do not seem to be highly trained, and things like mitigation and force just seem to appear randomly on a whim.
That stupid drop out situation. Tracey commits a howler of an error in his in goal, and the Dogs get the ball back courtesy of a short drop out and powderpuff penalty. It is just a frustration the game doesn't need and takes away the grubber/chip.
Play the ball officiating changes across the season. Mahoney literally falls off his feet and we are penalised.
Golden point is shit. 1 on 1 strips are not needed and cause mess.
What the fuck is the held rule? Why can you drive a player back 10-15m after held, when you have momentum, but not across the touchline? All brought in with Kearney's offensive defence. Don't we want to see strong packs crushing the opposition? Like the short drop out farce, teams earn that advantage.
And the bunker... get them out of the ref's ear and let him officiate the game. It is not a very attractive package anymore.
Good on ya, SJ, Tevaga and AFB. I've loved your efforts. Metcalf has a future.
