Well-known member

some stuff i heard about montoya

- wah’s to pay significant freight
- his manager approached the club
- club considering a 2 year deal , but also he is looked at as a squad player
- RTS will be moving to the wing , hence the tap from the warriors
Makes the most sense. He's been very serviceable, but definitely replaceable.

Put it this way, I'm more upset at loosing Patterson to the dogs over Montoya 😂

Is either the DT or SMH worth getting for digital access?
NRL Rich 100 2024: Full list of rugby league best paid players | Daily Telegraph

Kalyn Ponga has retained his crown. For the second year in succession, the Newcastle captain has finished atop the rugby league Rich 100, his $1.3 million salary making him the highest earner in the NRL.

Ponga, in the midst of a mega-deal that has another two years to run, edged three other superstars as the game’s greatest earner - Penrith captain Nathan Cleary, Parramatta playmaker Mitchell Moses and Manly sensation Tom Trbojevic.

Melbourne Storm and Queensland five-eighth Cameron Munster rounded out the top five in News Corp’s annual survey of rugby league’s biggest earners.

Moses is among the big movers this year as his rich deal kicks into gear, jumping from 10th spot last year to third in 2024.

SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE FULL 2024 RICH 100 LIST

Gold Coast captain Tino Fa’asuamaleaui has moved up 16 spots to No.6 in a sign of how valuable he is to the Titans and how much he was missed this year after succumbing to a knee injury.

Nicho Hynes, who heads into the finals with plenty to prove, has risen a remarkable 64 spots after signing a rich deal last year while Steve Crichton, Jeremiah Nanai and Harry Grant have new deals that reflect their standing in the game.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is Luke Brooks, whose move from the Wests Tigers to Manly came with a reduction in his million-dollar wage. Former NSW and Australian prop David Klemmer also slipped in the pecking order after the Knights stopped supplementing his wage.

There are surprising absences, among the most notable Brisbane sensation Reece Wash. It will only be short-lived - Walsh is poised to sign a deal that catapults him into the list next season and close to the top in the years that follow.

Maroons forwards Reuben Cotter and Lindsay Collins will also enter the Rich 100 next year.

1

Kalyn Ponga

Knights, 26, Fullback

$1.3 million

2023 Rank:
1

Born: Port Hedland, WA

Junior club: Souths Sharks, Mackay and Easts Tigers

The highest paid player in the competition once again. Whilst he walked away with a Dally M medal last year, his form this year has again been interrupted by injury. On a mega contract which does not expire until the end of 2027.

What do you think of Kalyn Ponga's ranking?

2

Nathan Cleary

Panthers, 26, Halfback

$1.2 million

2023 Rank:
2

Born: Sydney, NSW

Junior club: Brothers Penrith

The best player in the game, Cleary has been the inspiration behind Penrith’s trilogy of premiership successes. In the middle of a mega-contract he signed at the end of 2022, Cleary’s earnings have actually gone backwards after he sacrificed money to try to keep the Panthers together.

What do you think of Nathan Cleary's ranking?

3

Mitchell Moses

Eels, 29, Halfback

$1.2 million

2023 Rank:
10

Born: Ryde, NSW

Junior club: Carlingford Cougars, Holy Cross Rhinos

Becomes one of the highest paid players in the game with his new contract kicking in this year. The NSW halfback has had an injury ravaged year but showed during the interstate series who he is one of the best No.7s in the game.

What do you think of Mitchell Moses's ranking?

4

Tom Trbojevic

Sea Eagles, 27, Fullback

$1.2 million

2023 Rank:
6

Born: Mona Vale, NSW

Junior club: Mona Vale Raiders

One of the game’s highest paid players for good reason. Injuries in recent seasons have derailed his mantle as the game’s best players. But when he is on the park there is no doubting his value.

What do you think of Tom Trbojevic's ranking?

5

Cameron Munster

Storm, 29, Five-eighth

$1.15 million

2023 Rank:
3

Born: Rockhampton, Qld

Junior club: Norths Knights

Munster is in the second year of a four-year extension with the Storm, having rejected a mega-offer from the Dolphins to remain in Melbourne. On his day one of the best in the game and worth every cent. A genuine superstar.

What do you think of Cameron Munster's ranking?

6

Tino Fa’asuamaleaui

Titans, 24, Prop

$1.1 million

2023 Rank:
22

Born: Orange, NSW

Junior club: Gympie Devils

With Payne Haas, Big Tino is among the highest-paid props in the NRL. On $900,000 last year, the Titans skipper is now in the millionaire’s club after signing an NRL record 10-year, $12 million deal. Played just two games this year due to a snapped ACL.

What do you think of Tino Fa’asuamaleaui's ranking?

7

Payne Haas

Broncos, 28, Prop

$1.1 million

2023 Rank:
28

Born: Newcastle, NSW

Junior club: Woodberry Warriors

Rockets up the NRL Rich 100 as Brisbane’s first ever $1 million forward. The big bucks are well deserved. Haas is a five-time Broncos player of the year and the fittest prop in the code. His three-year extension, lifting his salary from $848,000, ends in 2026.

What do you think of Payne Haas's ranking?

8

Latrell Mitchell

Rabbitohs, 27, Fullback

$1.1 million

2023 Rank:
16

Born: Taree, NSW

Junior club: Taree Red Rovers

Cracks seven figures for the first time in his career with his new four year deal kicking in. Played just 11 games this year in a season which was plagued by off-field dramas. Needs to give his side bang for their buck next year.

What do you think of Latrell Mitchell's ranking?

9

James Tedesco

Roosters, 31, Fullback

$1.1 million

2023 Rank:
8

Born: Ryde, NSW

Junior club: Camden Rams

What do you think of James Tedesco's ranking?

10

Addin Fonua-Blake

Warriors, 28, Prop

$1.05 million

2023 Rank:
9

Born: Meadowbrook, NSW

Junior club: Mascot Jets

What do you think of Addin Fonua-Blake's ranking?

11

Valentine Holmes

Cowboys, 29, Centre

$1.05 million

2023 Rank:
24

Born: Townsville, Qld

Junior club: Western Lions

Surges into the millionaire’s club as part of the mega six-year deal he signed when returning to the NRL from his American Football stint. Was paid fullback’s money but is well overpaid as a centre. It prompted the Cowboys to release Holmes to the Dragons next season to free up salary-cap space.

What do you think of Valentine Holmes's ranking?

12

Daly Cherry-Evans

Sea Eagles, 35, Halfback

$1 million

2023 Rank:
4

Born: Redcliffe, Qld

Junior club: Mackay Brothers

What do you think of Daly Cherry-Evans's ranking?

13

David Fifita

Titans, 24, Second-row

$1 million

2023 Rank:
12

Born: Brisbane, Qld

Junior club: Souths Acacia Ridge

Maintains his place in the millionaire’s club but needs to start delivering bang for his big bucks. The back-rower shocked the Titans by signing with the Roosters in May, only to sensationally renege and remain at the Gold Coast.

What do you think of David Fifita's ranking?

14

Nicho Hynes

Sharks, 28, Halfback

$1 million

2023 Rank:
78

Born: Gosford, NSW

Junior club: Umina Beach Bunnies

In his first year of a club record seven-year deal that averages at $1 million per-season across the length of the contract. The talented halfback came into the season on a high after achieving Test honours at the end of 2023. Achieved his dream of a NSW starting debut in Origin I, but a dip in confidence and form, plus a severe ankle injury has left Hynes fighting to be back on the field before the season is over.

What do you think of Nicho Hynes's ranking?

15

Cameron Murray

Rabbitohs, 26, Lock

$1 million

2023 Rank:
17

What do you think of Tohu Harris's ranking?

18

Ben Hunt

Dragons, 34, Halfback

$950,000

2023 Rank:

Jason Taumalolo

Cowboys, 31, Lock

$950,000

2023 Rank:
20

Born: Auckland, NZ

Junior club: Otahuhu Leopards, Papakura Sea Eagles

Still one of the code’s top-paid players on the back of the one-time record 10-year deal he signed in 2017. Still has three years to run on his decade-long contract and is struggling to deliver bang for his buck as he manages a degenerative knee condition.

What do you think of Jason Taumalolo's ranking?

Ryan Papenhuyzen

Storm, 26, Fullback

$940,000

2023 Rank:
31

Born: Sydney, NSW

Papenhuyzen has battled with injuries in recent seasons but he is crucial to the Storm’s success with his work from the back. His injury woes have probably cost him the chance for higher honours. One of the game’s premier No.1s.

What do you think of Ryan Papenhuyzen's ranking?

Storm, 28, Prop

$900,000

25

Born: Wellington, NZ

Junior club: Upper Hutt Tigers

What do you think of Nelson Asofa-Solomona's ranking?

25

Dylan Brown

Eels, 24, Five-eighth

$900,000

2023 Rank:
32

Born: Auckland, NZ

If I’m Warriors, I’m throwing a million Jahrome Hughes way. Good to see Tohu’s salary comes down to $500k next year. Barnett on $700k is a win for us, many teams losing on some of those deals though

some stuff i heard about montoya

- wah’s to pay significant freight
- his manager approached the club
- club considering a 2 year deal , but also he is looked at as a squad player
- RTS will be moving to the wing , hence the tap from the warriors
Wait so hang on, his manager approached the club (assuming they mean tigers) but we pay significant freight? I somehow doubt that 😂. Either way, he’s unlikely to be on big money so no drama.

I have double checked his contract and we only had him for 2025 so the freight, if it is true. will only be one year.
How much will his new contract be $350K $300K or only $250K pick one of those numbers. And if we picked up 40% of that or even 50% then I think it is an inconsequential amount.
