The club has handled this perfectly in my eyes. You forced the clubs hand so they sign Tanah to 3 years. Offer a release to Luke. No beating around the bush. Move on.
The question is whether or not Boyd will accept the move to 6 next year when Nathan Cleary arrives, or whether the situation repeats
Obviously the above is not serious. CHT not re-signing would certainly release the cat among the pigeons though!
Almost certain that Nathan Cleary would say he is happy to play six to Boyd's seven if that is what the coach wants (admittedly he would then take over and play like the controlling half anyway lol).

My guess is that the club didn't want to look like patsies. The Warriors would look weak if they let a contracted player break contract coz they feel like it....
Metcalf could have avoided all of this by doing it all in private allowing a media announcement about a compassionate release.
So I think probably that the Warriors didn't want to just let a contracted player walk out the door coz they had a tanty.
And I also think that the club privately will be planning to be well rid of him this season, ideally after the storm has died down a bit.

Why is Metcalf not playing NSW cup?
He is not injured and this from today. Did he refuse to play?

If you take the press statement on face value, and add that to the management statement, pressure has been put on the club, which they have reluctantly agreed to.
Player managers act on the behalf of players, so really this is led by Metcalf

Looking like that was never an option for Andrew Wesbter (it certainly casts Metcalf's selection over an in form Chanel Harris Tavita in a new light).
Would have loved him to have played more footy with us and I'm pretty sure he would have also . Must have been very frustrating sitting on the sidelines with the team going so well
I have doubted all along he will ever get back to his best form. Whatever you think of him he was a gun. We are used to having these issues with players

I'm not upset about this, I said after the first or second loss you can't have both Boyd and Metcalf defensively as your halfs. Back to our strong left edge since, and the right now doesn't look as grim so that holds up at least to my eyes as you can't strip both edges which makes it more challenging for opposition halfs.
No i'll will towards Met, hope he goes somewhere and his body holds up. I said in my original post at the start of the thread we are heading into what appears to be a great era for the club, you can't afford the captain of your ship to be a part time addition as it's too disruptful and you likely wouldn't have the chance at a prem.
The posts in here saying what are we getting in return is laughable. We'd be thankful if someone would be willing to take over the 900k a season contract for someone with his lack of durability.
I don't think internally this would cause a rift with the playing group if it were to be CHT for instance. Metcalf has shown his cards, I trust the senior players we have to handle that given our team first mentality. Hopefully the from 2027 is just window dressing from the club, as no need to keep that sort of energy around the club this year if he manages to get an option for immediate release.
