I could see a halves pairing of Metcalf and Boyd killing it. With the way seasons go, more than likely an injury could be an invitation for Metcalf to get a foot in.
The clear current consensus amongst coaches and fans is that Metcalf needs to play his way back in and take his opportunity whether that’s at six or seven. Webster has said he backs him as good enough at six.
CHT does seem to complement both well and is great defensively, howveer if he does leave for a few years a Boyd/Metcalf pairing if given an extended run could be something special. Two high pedigree Australian halves hitting peak form mid career under a system like Websters.

Ironically Metcalf would probably play six at many places overseas anyway?

So, with this news leak I think we have another insight into the webster-mcfadden supremacy - these guys are doing business and playing it confidently as it can only mean that Boyd is the chosen 7, that's his position, hasn't played effectively anywhere else... whereas Metcalf is technically more versatile ... I've sort of been thinking about this for a while cos for all Webby's clarity and no bs approach to publicly discussing the team and his game plans he also loves a change up on the team list on game day and never definitely reveals what his 'kpis' or success measures are... tricky bastard our coach and I love it, it's how it should be... let the success speak for itself when it comes on the field.

the moves that got me thinking about this approach actually are around the centre position - Webby knew a couple of years ago it was a problem area and one that he wanted to turn around as an opportunity into a strength - i.e. the earlier failed experiment of Roger to centre... moving forward in time the mantra coach repeated when it was sudden death was that they simply had to have 'our best players on the field', so for the semi- he put Leka at centre - that didn't exactly work out either but it wasn't a complete bust so come this year when cnk IS a bust there he moves Rog back and it fucking starts working... turns out, in the syntax of this progression, that RTS 2026 is the centre that webby wanted Leka to be...

It's not exactly the same with Boyd to 7, it's more that seeing a weak position after SJ left demanded a number of different options - and the one we seem to be landing on is the square running classic distributor 7, as opposed to the fleet footed support playing running half... but you'd be lying if you said that this could have been foreseen at the end of last year... so fair play to these guys, they have a system and a process and it looks to be working more often than it doesn't ...

I think we're screwed if any of that happens! Just Sydney centric bias towards Metcalf.

"It's going to take another 6 months for him to get the strength back in his knee and probably his confidence", but "he'll be wearing the 7 jersey by the playoffs"? that'll be an interesting next couple of months!

"Bears would be good for CHT"
And "Chad wants Boyd at the Dragons"? None of it makes any sense!
Not to Jett Cleary 🤪

The best point on that NRL360 section was Anasta, "Metcalf needs game time".

That was in response to Ritchie arguing how Metcalf has played 6 this year, then came back listed as jersey 20. If he hadn't got injured, he could have got game time and they may have decided to move him to 7. The debate would have been different. He only lasted two games.

There has been a bit made of Webster's "There won't be any changes in the halves" or "They have earned their position". Paraphrasing, as I can't recall the exact quote.

However, he said something similar last year when he started Metcalf and CHT. He said there would be no changes for 6 weeks. Metcalf got to benefit from it last year. This year he is hindered by it.
