Team Boyd here.

Wot game was it that Metcalf is thought to have given Boyd a dirty look? (read it in another thread).

A couple of people have pointed out the mythology of "Metcalf has a higher ceiling" "We need to see if Boyd can keep this up".

Webster ball is highly structured. Tick Boyd.

We do not know Metcalf's ceiling as a 7, we may have seen it last year, or we may have seen a flash in the pan, never to be repeated.

The same could be said of both players, however the narrative that is doing the rounds as a 'given' is that this rule only applies to Tanah....i.e. only Tanah will trough.....

My memories of running number 7's is that they actually tend to run hot and cold more often with some distance between their form patches and their lulls.

Just a side note, earlier in the season pre Metcalf when Aussie media were fawning over Boyd's transformative performances, Andrew Johns made the comment that halves needing confidence should look to run first and then play off that.
Basically he boiled it down to taking the pressure away and putting it on the defensive line by creating doubt (time & space)..

Yeah I saw that too.

Johns used to bang on about Johnson needing to play more direct. And obviously he used to comment on Johnson's lack of organizational skills.

Lots of experts used to say that Stacey Jones needed to take the line on more often.

I commented in another thread that Boyd was running at the Eels on tackle four (meaning he was taking himself out of play for the kick). And I said that was to keep them guessing.

Which I think is a good thing, CHT can kick ok, not great, not hideous, the only way he gets better and we have two kickers instead of one is if he kicks more often.

This is metcalf's ceiling right here.

If these rumors are true, I think it is a massive miss calculation on the Metcalf's camps behalf.

Do they not realize that through the many many months that he has been laid up that the Warriors coaches carry that anxiety with him through all of their long and loyal days of waiting?

Dam the whole organization pray's they didn't throw 900k of cap space down the toilet every time Metcalf breaks a finger nail.

Sheesh.

The stress of will he won't he must wear thin at some stage.

I have always had doubts about Metcalf. There are times are crucial periods where he can be a deer in headlights and just freeze. When he's good he's great but I would argue either player would play well when the team is rolling like they do.

I think Boyd's success has been based off him executing his role perfectly in Webby's highly structured game plan. He's clearly done his homework and is enjoying the rewards. This is true of the whole team really as everyone needs to be in the right place at the right time.

One thing that really cheeses my pizza with Boyd is his goal kicking. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! There will be games where we win or lose just because of his boot.

What surprises me is people are no longer shitting on CHT anymore. Have the masses finally woken up???

Everyone wants CHT to stay at 6 after his performances thus far. Probably the best 6 atm in the comp and is entirely left dominant.

I'm team Boyd. Think metcalf hasn't proved enough to be demanding the 7.

Discarding all the smoke and fire out there. I don't get the reasoning of Mets still not playing cup.

He should be playing 6 and 7 at cup to get ready, regain his rhythm, fitness and form, and showing the way for the juniors

When 1 of CHT/Boyd gets HIA'ed or injured, he returns and takes 0.5-1 game and starts firing, and people will love him for it, and he might have a shot to keep CHT/Boyd out

But instead he's either out of sorts in FG (due to being out for a long time), or sitting on the bench with no game reps of any grades
And when he's finally called upon you know what will happen? He'll crab across and handbrakes, the whole team out of sync and we struggle to beat bottom teams and always go down to the wire, and this will go on for 1-2 months, 4-8 games, and the fans and media will argue is it him or others decide to slack off to let him do all the work
We have the data from before

I really don’t want to hate on Luke because it’s this killer mentality that we have been missing at the club for so long. A guy who knows what he wants and is obsessed about it.

However the club and Webby has bent over backward for him in helping him through his injuries.

I hope he shows some loyalty back. However if another club offers him the no 7 with same $$$ totally understandable if he chooses me first
