Raiders were great. Super physical all game, won contact and the ruck easily. Backs and Starling fed off fast PTB, had us back peddling a tone in defence. Through in a couple tries through our errors and there you go.

For us, we have a small pack, so need to have other areas of our game to super tight and create attack. Unfortunately we didn't, no second phase, no creativity from dummy half or the halves. Kicking game was not good enough. Our second rowers really lack any upside which is super concerning for me. I really hope Laban had some visa issue, and he replaces one next round. Centres had little front foot ball. CNK had a shocker.

I really hope we can put this down to round 1 cobwebs etc, but it's hard to take any positives out of this. To see Ford and Capewell get so many minutes was frustrating considering what they offered, I think the coaches need a re think.

The bench changes prior to kick off were to improve our middle. As we wanted to take them on up front.

Ford is a good worker. However, A bigger body would have meant owning them in the middle which was the aim.

The original formation probably would have been better. I can see the thinking with Clark and Walker coming on with increased leg speed later. But the same could have been achieved with Walker coming on with Halasima or Vaimauga.

Vaimauga it was tough as looking at the bench he could have been coming on to play as a front rower. Spelling either Barnett or JFH. Instead he came on when the game was pretty much over and hat lost all of its structure.

Ive been on that train the whole preseason.
Boyd 7 Metcalf 6
Metcalf just looks to restraint at 7, he probably thinks he needs to set up plays, leave that to Boyd.
I want TMM at FB after seeing Charnze today aswell.
I think he has aged and TMM can bring another level of attack.
Difficult for any 7 when your forwards are getting owned.
I still think RTS is better at FB although obviously passed his best.
Forwards need to step up and we gotta make more use of Leka and Vaimauga.

Well, unfortunately, that was a horribly predictable performance from a horribly conservative coach with a horrible game plan . And unfortunately it will continue on until injuries enforce some change.

He did say our attack would look different this season, it certainly does! 🤣. We were lucky to score 8. Hell, even against 12 we looked clueless and disorganized, pedestrian and optionless.

Our defence was a follow on from the majority of last season. If it's true that defense is about attitude then we are in serious trouble.

There wasn't any positive to take out of that game that we can really build on IMO. Out played, out classed, out enthused, out coached.

You get some disappointing performances in round 1. Unfortunately we are often one of the sides putting those out.

The problem is instead of the usual one week to turn it around we have two. Part of that taken up with travelling back to NZ.

Let's hope round 2 is a big improvement.

It is true about attitude not only defense but the whole game.

Not a good sign when you’re 7 goes missing though.
It’s very harsh but I am worried with him steering the ship.
If Webby has the balls and make some harsh calls in the forwards and uses his interchanges properly I think we will be ok up front.
