Well, unfortunately, that was a horribly predictable performance from a horribly conservative coach with a horrible game plan . And unfortunately it will continue on until injuries enforce some change.

He did say our attack would look different this season, it certainly does! 🤣. We were lucky to score 8. Hell, even against 12 we looked clueless and disorganized, pedestrian and optionless.

Our defence was a follow on from the majority of last season. If it's true that defense is about attitude then we are in serious trouble.

There wasn't any positive to take out of that game that we can really build on IMO. Out played, out classed, out enthused, out coached.
It is true about attitude not only defense but the whole game.

Difficult for any 7 when your forwards are getting owned.
I still think RTS is better at FB although obviously passed his best.
Forwards need to step up and we gotta make more use of Leka and Vaimauga.
Not a good sign when you’re 7 goes missing though.
It’s very harsh but I am worried with him steering the ship.
If Webby has the balls and make some harsh calls in the forwards and uses his interchanges properly I think we will be ok up front.

Tough watch. A couple of lucky tries from Canberra, a couple begging from us which would have flattered the score line a little more.

Feels like raiders had a plan and got away with it (pushing up in the line, slowing down ruck excessively, pushing up off the mark hard) and I don’t think they get away with any of that vs a team like Cronulla who will shred your edges if you do that, or a storm/manly/penrith who will just pepper the ball behind your line all day.

Anyway, Vegas is silly. Hope we can bounce back, we’ve got some weird combinations at the moment. Struggling to find a place for CNK in my team at this rate

That was probably one of the biggest worries, our pack getting dominated and Webby not reacting to it until the 60-65th minute

I'm more hoping, but surely Webby holding them back to that time meant that after the initial 20 minutes Webby switched up his plan (which surely would have been to bring them on in the first half).

I thought we were starting to look the better team in that period from about 25 minutes through to 50 minutes, however the shit thing is they scored 3 very fortunate tries.

Imo, we started poorly so Webby hell Vaumunga and Halasima back, until we got to a place of parity. Unfortunately that period we started to get on top, they still scored so it got to a point where he had to bring them both on mate.

I could be wrong, but that's the way I see it. I think it's a good learning experience for Webby as a coach, he's still figuring shit out but yeah, it felt to me that we certainly needed an improvement after about 30 mins or so

I'll be in the minority here, but I didn't expect much attack-wise considering we have new halves and new combinations on the edges. Nor do I think it's fair to get into our attack when you have to base your attack on your defense and positioning.

But that defense (which does not excuse our halves) and interchanges are my real disappointment.

Team – 40 missed tackles, 26 ineffective.
Capewell – 28 made, 8 missed, 3 ineffective.
Metcalf – 19 made, 6 missed, 2 ineffective.
CHT – 22 made, 4 missed, 2 ineffective.
Marata – 21 made, 3 missed, 4 ineffective.
Everyone else was just averagely bad—missing at least 2 and making 1 or 2 ineffective.

On the inverse, the best defenders we had:
Egan – 49 made, 2 missed, 2 ineffective.
Barney – 37 made, 0 missed, 2 ineffective.
Halismia – 10 made, 0 missed, 0 ineffective.

When it came to interchanges...
Why did we only use 7 and not the full 8? Why carry Halismia and Vaimauga if you're only gonna interchange them at the end? Halismia for 26 mins and Vaimauga for 14 mins (although, for context, the Raiders had a very similar interchange to us). Personally, I see more out of Halismia over Capes or Marata, and I'd carry Healey in if you're only going to play Vaimauga for 14 mins, ffs.

If you're going to play Barney at lock, you could have used the interchange to keep one of our captains on the field for the whole game. But instead, we had 25 mins without either captain on the field, which is when they scored 3 out of their 5 tries against us.

After one game I can pick out 3 things that need to happen immediately for the sake of the club.

Adam Pompey should not see first grade again.

He offers nothing in any area.

For years our edge has suffered from poor defence, I’ve seen different edge forwards and wingers take the blame. The reason that edge has been poor is Pompey.

I’d be happy to explain further for those who want it.

His attack is shocking, he’s slow, has poor decision making on both sides of the ball.

I could keep going but I won’t.

Niukore needs to go, or a heavily reduced role. Slow, bad reads and no impact from his runs.

And finally, we need to realise we have 4 players on our bench.

There’s other things obviously but those 3 are glaring.
He's no Joey Manu but he got a good ball away for Capewell's try, young Ali didn’t do much either. Who replaces Pompey, Harper? Pretty dire isn't it.

Problem is after an entire preseason Webby still cant see that Marata and Capewell should be playing cup.

Interesting the call for back line or spine changes.
I think our pack was the main worry, got dominated.
Our pack were out muscled for large portions of that game but our halves were completely lost. We had plenty of opportunities in the opposition 20. Even when we were against 12 there was nothing, no desire to take the game on at all. And this is against the Raiders who are a marginal top 8 challenger at best.

I love Charnz, but we probably need to flush this game and move on.

2nd worst game meter wise for him as a FB ever. Double his average errors, no attacking stats to speak of.

2 errors that were direct causes of tries.

He's better than that, unfortunately he had a shocker. Imo he's earned enough respect where we give him this game and move forward, no point changing everything based on one of his worst performances ever m

I have said repeatedly that LM is going to be better suited 6.
Stupid having a half who's best quality is running at 7.
We have other options. Boyd TMM
Should have used the trials to test out but unfortunately Boyd was injured

There is a big difference between wanting the 7 on your jersey and being able to play 7.
