Sports Cricket World Cup 2023

On behalf of NZC I am advertising for job vacancies for the 2027 world cup

1) Express bowler
2) Left arm seamer with 135+km/hr speed
3) Wicker keeper middle order batsman

We have a gun top 4 batting line up and Rachin will become a legit 2nd spinner/gun 5th bowler, we just need 2 quicks, a keeper, possibly a closer (Bracewell?) and keep Jamieson and Henry fit and peaking, a bowling unit with Henry/Jamieson/Santa/Rachin 2027 and another quickie will give our gun batting unit a chance to thrash top teams

This is a weird feeling, actually wanting Aussie to win. For no other reason than I want them to face the Indians in a showdown of who is the worst.

🤣

The ICC have capitulated on the pitch swap as they are a toothless pathetic organisation. But looking forward to what the ACB say when they do it to them.

Steve Smith will be feeling very thankful for the win after his horrendous shot that nearly threw it away.

It is how he needed to play, but it is not pleasant watching an excellent test batsman like Head play so agriculturally in this World Cup.

Poor Saffas. If it was ever going to happen, this was the comp you feel. Still their fans would have been insufferable if they had won this and the rugby.

Oh I hope India pulls their usual antics and thrashed Aus- At least Aus won’t be quiet about it that’s for sure

I like the format as it guarantees the best sides are there for the finals rather than getting through on a flukey win or two. It's not ideal that more of the fringe ODI sides like Ireland and Zimbabwe aren't there, but when they tried 12-14 sides with the super sixes it came off as a bit gimmicky with your fate being so influenced by the sides you happen to advace with.

Be interesting to see how India respond being 3 down fairly early
Will be more interesting to see how Australia goes (now)!

This pitch is incredibly slow, but Australia will just keep ticking the scoreboard over and pick up boundaries every now and again.

Many weird passages of play in a strange final

India never got going, the partnership between Kohli and Rahul was impotent. It's ok to be careful when you lose early wickets but you also need to strategise the partnership.

Neither of them had any interest in putting pressure back on the bowler. They would have been telling themselves that keep wickets in hand until 35/40 over mark- all the while Aus internally would not be believing their luck that they were able to just bowl over after over. Only a single boundary hit between overs 9 and 29!

Usually, in that scenario one is the aggressor and the other the stable party - Head & Labushagne played that to perfection.

India froze on their own stage...

Kohli should have played a much more aggressive hand when Rahul came in, but instead they thought it was a test match.

But my god that stadium is a sight to behold!

Hope we have a Black Caps thread

Thought on the next 4 years/World Cup in SA

Possible line ups

1. Allen
2. Ravindra
3. Williamson
4. Mitchell
5. Conway
6. Bracewell
7. Seifert/Cleaver
8. Santa
9. Jaimeson
10. Henry
11. Boult/Mitchell McClenaghan type specialist death bowler/the new Henry/Boult/Ferguson of 2024

I have Bracewell there so our bowling unit looks like - Henry/Jaimeson/Santa/Bracewell, 5th bowlers shared between Ravindra/Mitchell, unless Phillips keeps then he replaces Seifert. Ravindra has a lot of upside to become the legit 2nd spin frontline bowler in 4 years

This is probably one of our best top 5 batting unit so they really need to develop a couple of pacers to do that batting unit justice. Allen was introduced prior to 2023 world cup cycle so he's likely a shoe in for 2027, like Philips, Mitchell and Chapman made it after debuting around 2016-2017 seasons missing the 2019 world cup.

We need to let the keepers battle it out, and reduce Jaimeson to white ball and learn, as his body won't cope with test matches, hope Henry doesn't drop off like Boult did, and invest in a couple of young pacers so one of them will be ready to go, we used to have Henry, Boult, Southee, Fergey, Milne coming through and they were young too, WTF happened in the last 4-6 years, we literally have no new legit international seamers, not even a De Grahomme who was amazing

I've got Boult there if nobody came through, he will be playing T20s around the world going forward and gets even better at deaths bowling so might as well use him as Mitchell McClenaghan who exclusively bowls from the middle to deaths overs. Henry can be the other death bowler he has improved and 4 more years of wisdom he should be fine as the 2nd death bowler.

They need to blood players younger too, instead of picking them when they're 27/28, first world cup they'd be 32 and at risk of dropping off in 4 years time like Dutch did

Hopefully the boys who saw the Dream Big NZ of 2015 campaign will start to come through for the next cycle too
