Let’s be honest, Grant Dalton owns TNZ and has received millions of taxpayer money to sail his boats

He will go wherever in the world he will get the most money from the host city. It is called Team New Zealand but really, it is his team. He isn’t doing this for NZ, or to create a lovely spectacle, or to grow the sport. He just wants to race fast boats and make a killing

He could run an event like we did in 2000 and 2003, where we had 10 large syndicates based here, some of which weren’t competitive at all, but made Auckland vibrant. Instead, he’s headed down the path of fewer competitors, ultra high tech, ultra deep pockets and ultra fast boats.

My pick is that he takes it to Dubai or Saudi next. One last tilt at filling the wallet

There seems to be this confusion around this point. Valid, considering the name.

Fact is they are not and never will be a national team. They are a racing syndicate and would be better compared to a formula one team.

It's big money playing these games and venues pay a significant amount into ETNZ's coffers. People talk like looking out their windows and being able to watch the racing is a right.

It is if you pay for it.
