He’s lost through no fault of his own the pillars that got us to the prelim Harris, SJ, AFB. On top of that our youth development is behind because of COVID.

It’s just not a very good squad on paper at the moment. I think we’ll see the likes of Ali, Halasima and Vaimauga make good first graders by the end of the season but it’s going to be a slow road to being contenders.

He does need some solid assistant coaches, I don't think Stacy Jones should be anywhere near this team.

I thought the boys were connected though?

Today they looked as disconnected as I've seen them in webbys era!

It's round 1 and that was dished up, I'm super worried about how this will flow into the next three rounds.
Boys were connected. We prepared well. Benefits of a full off season versus last year. We've put a lot of work in to our defensive structures. We are a process driven team.

Doesn't scream out that the coaching staff have any answers to address our many issues does it?

Seems to be repeating the same issues as last season.

Conservative style without x-factor. 0 shape or structure in attack. Fullback non existent in attack. The depth of our kickers, the lack of ball runners, one out plays with the defence rushing the receiver and not adjusting.

Backing conservative Metcalf over TMM.

These aren’t squad issues, these are coaching. The lack of development in the team is a worry.

I agree with a few of these and disagree with others. But i don't get how metcalf was a "conservative" pick here, if anything i thought it was a bit more "bullish", backing him to be a long term soultion over a proven short term one. If that is right or wrong is by the by, more trying to say that i don't think it's a "conservative" selection.

I have been a staunch Webby supporter but unless we see some improvements on that dross that was served up my support will start to waiver. Capewell's performance does not warrant selection, nor has the signing been justified in my opinion. Not sure why our two young guns get thrown on when the game is gone. The legs of our middles had gone earlier as shown by Fords struggles to get onside exploited by Starling. There was often no support runners, Tuapiki cannot run one off the ruck without a threat alongside him, he is too lightweight and gets monstered. Attack was flat as. Just so poor

It had to be the team that everyone thought was going to get the wooden spoon! At least we get a top 8 team next round! Redemption? 🤣

Webbys ok, it's others around him.

Matthew Ridge is right get rid of the old Boys and dead weights in the club, 20+ years it's been jobs for the boys. Where's the results?
The only one worthy was Ivan and we let him go...

Webby doesn't need to worry about being liked (He already is)
I've noticed he coaches similar to Ivan, not many changes during a game ... or initial team selection.

This works when those boys came through winning lower grades. And have jumped to 1st grade together... (Penrith development process)

We need to be patient but he needs to weed out the deadwood before the first crop of dev players hit 1st grade...

Fire Agar and his hangars on, fire Stacey and his groupies too.

this may have been answered already, but do we have a director of football role? Like John Harr was with Ivan?

The more i see the more Im leaning towards getting some like Brad Arthur in as assistant. Cut zagar and Jones.

Webby everyone likes but jf he keeps belting out the same squad that support will thin out and imo will remond me

My verdict I think I am landing on is just accept this year will be a cluster fuck as Webster will back the wrong cattle (insert the names here of the people we all know) - but the good news is some of them, unless they sign an extension, finish with us this year in their contract.

I think ideally as part of his learning curve the media and management threaten his job this year to wake him up into making the hard calls.

As of today at least, and I am sure I will be fickle, I am in the give him 5 years camp. When I got promoted to lead complex projects it took me 5 years to become good. And had plenty of failures in the first few years. It is hard being a situation where every thing rides on you and the decisions to be made are very hard.
Websters decisions are very hard and one thing I think people are over looking is it is people's careers and livelihoods he has to decide with impacts those players families and their children.
Some people are saying fire Capewell into the sun....that is a big call that impacts Kurt himself as a person and his career and his retirement plans post football. It takes experience and a few decisions in both directions where some you get right and some you get wrong before you find the balance and the whole time people's lives are at stake. Not life and death but their careers and personal lives will be impacted.
Easy for us fans to say get rid of these 5 NRL veterans when there are loaded values and considerations in making those sorts of calls. Eventually I think he will get good at these hard calls. However a leopard doesn't change its spots so he will always be slow to make such decisions even after ten years. But he will change especially when the penny drops it is either they go or I go and then you will see some decisions.

Just to add to all of this decision inertia is reinforced with how many dudes and dudesses have to be informed and on board with each call including updates to sponsors in some calls. The organisational decision making stakeholders are many and introduce cumbersomeness in making decisions and disincent nimble decision making especially for a new coach. Although how long he can be called new will start to wear out this year since he has two years behind him.
