I don't mean this to be argumentative, but I would really like to know the answer
Please list 3 -4 halves who started out with humble outputs and capabilities in their first 2 to 3 years but ended up being a gun player?

All the good halves I have ever seen were good from game one they played. Including Dylan Brown for example.

Does Blake green qualify? Never a gun but definately a 7 out of 10
Cooper cronk started pretty shit.
You could argue someone like SJ always showing potential maybe reached that last year?
Cody walker debuted at like 26 or something insane.

Halves are rare commodities though.

Realistically, He has plenty of potential. And so far we've based his game off of his speed. And at 24 years of age. The word potential wears a bit thin.
As a half, We expect more than just speed. If he was a winger, We'd have no problems.

So at his age, It's no longer about potential, It's confidence, ownership & belief. And if webby can install that in him, And he believes he can play his role. Then we have a handy player on our hands. He doesn't need to be Nathan Cleary/Shaun Johnson/Andrew Johns.

I just want to see him be more of team player. At the moment, He is kicking for himself or trying to score by running around or through players. Sometimes on the last play.
We do need his speed. Be awesome if he developes a better passing & kicking game. Fingers

I believe in him. We just need him to deliver sooner than later.

Good point. There's sure to be others but the only one I can think of now is DCE.
The best ones come through the Aussie systems because of the intensity and quality of training.
Always going to be exceptions

DCE killed it from day one mate. He spent 1 year in reserve grade, then hit the ground running in first grade.

Jahrome Hughes is another example. Couldn't nail down a spot in the Cowboys or Titans starting lineups.

It probably seems as though the good ones are already good because most of the current guns came through the 20s and already had a fairly big profile SJ, Reynolds, DCE etc. It does happen though. Some off the top of my head who took a while to get going

Difficult comparisons tbf.
It's subjective on what is humble and gun.
Can't be measured imo

Cronk and Hughes are the two I have as needed to build over time.

Cronk was a utility for a couple of years who jumped in after Kimmorely and it eventually worked.

So long as we’re seeing signs of improvement from Lukey it’s worth pursuing. His kicking game was sound and that inside ball to Jakey was enough to continue.

Wouldn’t want to be held to ransome by the threat of him exiting to keep him on overs though.

Jeez, there's a deciding factor in those two halves kicking on..........Craig Bellamy. What a coach, definitely gets the best out of players. Maybe its just being in a winning team/environment.

Fingers and toes crossed that Webby and team (Agar, Jones, Griffin and McFadden) can replicate last year's turnaround and attitude. Ford coming from nowhere, DWZ, SJ and AFB having their best seasons in years. Players seamlessly slotting into the system when top graders drop out ala Taine Tuaupiki, Ali and Volkman.

This is the year we should be aiming to join the top tier of clubs.

Yeah the general consensus is that most halves take a few years to kick on, no way the majority of them are kicking on from day dot. It depends on what you see as a 'good half', as players like Jerome Luai had pretty average stats his first 2 years, but had lots of x factor so would do some great things, but generally hai 2018 and 2019 weren't fantastic...

Very few -id say less than 10% - start off in State of Origin or international form in those first few years

Nah mate I get it, I'm a big fan of his but he was dropped and only played 8 games last year as a result, so he's hardly had a meteoric
rise, no Origin or anything in his first 2 years and not looking likely for this year.

He was very very good in his first season and then clubs targeted him too heavily for his young body and he got smashed out of the race, he looks scared now when he plays, sad really, the Roosters are to blame, should have held him back and bulked him up or at least let him age a bit.

Good game dogs v sharks. Doggies forwards won't make many metres this year, that Kikau, Chrichton, Fox edge should get plenty of points though. Curran running hard.

Both of those guys are still playing as halves in the ESL

You d have to say they have had long successful careers in rugby league

But not in the Nrl

Tuimavave last played in the halves back in 2020 according to the Rugby League Project & Centre has been his regular position since 2017.
Lolohea moved back to the halves last year after spending 2022 as a specialist Fullback. Losing record as both a Halfback & Five-Eight in the ESL. Decent enough record (23W-1D-20L) as a Fullback though
