Team List Preseason 2025 Trial 2 - Warriors vs Storm

Bit weird if true that they are looking at him as a middle. A dynamic power running back rower is what I saw from him in his hit out against the dogs. Or are we trying to remove any sign of x factor from the squad in order to stick the robotic plan?
Leka will cope in the middle. Might take the sting out of him if he's a starting middle but as a sub if inserted before the opposition props are rotated could work. But quite frankly, that's a stupid idea to waste his X factor that way. An edge sub?

Yeah agree as Leka seems to have the most x factor on attack of all our junior forwards. At least the ones I have seen. What would make more sense is for Demitric Vaimauga to move into the middle when Leka comes on so he can go to the edge.

I think there were rumors around Demitric Vaimauga practicing on the edge. So maybe he's takin his role there? Can only hope.

I reckon that could be the best back row in the comp, in a year or so...
From next year on for sure.
I wouldn’t do it this year, too green you still need experience on the field as well.
But we should be blooding them this year to take their positions next season.

*Shit didn’t read your last sentence properly 🤦🏾‍♂️

Middle forwards are more expensive and important that edge forwards, just think of everything webby does through the prism of penrith, wings can be short and slow so long as they take a million hit ups, after Kikau left their edges primarily just run hard tackle hard for 80 minutes.

If Halasima is a special player, maybe edge is not where special players are put – that’s for grinders and toilers like Liam Martin or Sorenson.

Or they are just mucking around in preseason and giving players experience at both spots

Just have to get a bigger faster bloke on a smaller bloke to attract the extra defenders. Draw and pass or smash into them and offload ala Demitric Vaimauga on the weekend.

The ball will beat the man, distrubution skills are key.

Potential means you havent acheived anything yet. Experience is important.

It is easier to kick it there yhan runbit therre good goal and field kickthe mosters necessary.

Got to have x factor somewhere in your team. Seems a bit of a waste to play him in the middle. Kind of like asking SBW to play there. Where are you going to get the most return from a player. Kind of feel like AW is still trying to fit players in to his plan rather than working to their strengths and developing a plan around them.

Looking forward to seeing Leka have a run.
Talk is their looking to use him in the middle more. Dunno about that.
Niukore's been a disappointment, and Capewell provides zero threat on his edge.
Just think we lack that strike on our edges that can shorten defensive lines up and creates space out wide.
Leka's power, footwork, and speed would seem the best suited of anyone in our squad to provide this.

My guess is that the reason Leka is being given some middle experience is that Webster is looking to foster his Andrew Fafita qualities, this will prove especially true if Leka keeps growing physically.

I see his blooding in the middle as just part of development plan specific to him as someone special that could play anywhere in the Scrum outside of hooker.

Webster likes leg speed in his props and he likes some footwork and hole running from his props when they are inside the opposition twenty (AFBs role).

I take it Webster wants leka to speed up our middle third, add some unpredictability in the middle, and use his mass, speed and foot work to win that ruck, especially when JFH and or Barnett are off.

I also believe Webster is smart enough to imagine Leka the big fast mobile middle forward being placed on an edge for a set play.

I actually think it will be good for him.

Part of where Lekas future lies depends on how well others perform in the middle. ergo Leka to the middle is just a symptom that at present our middles are not good enough.

Also Leka is most likely going to be an impact middle forward which means he is gonna run off Walker, i won't extrapolate on why that would be a good thing.

But defensively Tmm better than Tanah Boyd.
And Capewell needs to swallow some improvement pills playing on past reputation not current performance.

Capewell is going through the motions as is Marata Niukore.

We all know why, it is because NRL players do not take the Warriors seriously, so apart from some stand out exceptions, the majority come here when they are looking for pay days and easy times.

That is cool. Webster is not a fool he can see the same things we do every week. What Webster needs is options, he needs the young forwards internally to force Marata and Capewell out of the club, unfortunately at the moment those blokes cruising are still better than our tomorrow stars.

I'm not worried about Capewell. I thought he finished the season strongly after being hampered by his injury for most of the first half of the season. Come NRL proper time he will be playing at a good level. There are certainly plenty of other players that give me pause for concern before I get to him.
