I think you will find that in Queensland you need a RWC or similar to a wof only when you sell a vehicle. I haven't lived there for a while now but I can remember some absolute shit boxes on their roads.

I think the stats in NZ show most accidents are caused by human error (speed, alcohol, drugs, under 25, etc).

There’s statistically rarely any major accident caused by issues with the car.

i think modern cars will electronically or mechanically due before they get rust, or the led headlight fail, etc. Only real issues would be the tires.

Absolutely if stats show its working why fk around with it. No brainer for me.

Politicians want higher speed limits but fund advertising for the police and NZTA pleading for motorists to slow down. What sort of mixed messages are they sending out.

I've got a Ford Escape which is a newer vehicle than my wife's RAV 4. Because of it's age, the Escape currently only needs a WOF every 12 months yet it's more likely to require something needed when the WOF is done than the older RAV 4 which needs a WOF every 6 months because the RAV 4 is a far more reliable vehicle.

Well the way to check would be Australia and Queensland where they don’t require WOF unless selling.

Honestly excepting tires/ brakes, who’s going to die because your sun visor doesn’t stay up on the passengers side, or the handbrakes slightly loose or your headlights aren’t properly aligned (all stuff I’ve failed in the past and would be picked up at the next service).

Biggest risk to over the years has been trailers loading and or stuff on roof racks. Seen some dumb stuff over the years!

I’ve always tended to avoid VTNZ after having issues I thought were pedantic. They seem to go through phases of a particular issue across many vehicles? Last one many were speaking of was frosting on headlights

I would prefer compulsory third car insurance (like in Aus, UK etc) rather than faffing about with WOFs

It is ridiculous that uninsured drivers are on our roads

For example one guy said next time I come for a WOF I will need new shocks. I thought that strange as i had imported it recently from OZ & undergone rigid compliance tests. Took it to VTNZ next 3 or 4 times & straight thru no mention on the shocks.

I have several cars from the 50's and 60's. These are maintained by me with anything I can't do sent out to a reputable garage. In other words these vehicles are pampered more than the wife (so she says) and are always in tip top condition. But, they all had to have a WOF every 6 months due to their age. Never mind that one or two would only have travelled a couple of hundred Km in that time. My daily driver hasn't had a new warrant since I got it as it's still in its 3 year "grace" period from new. Go figure. One benefit is the registration cost is only $74, half of which is the ACC Levy

However, as a plus, the legislation changed in Sept this year that Vehicles now classed as light vintage and veteran can have a 12 month warrant.

Sorry JN, doesn't cover vintage trucks, whose brakes are all shit anyway.

Brakes are a good case though. Those of us old enough to remember drum brakes will recall the fear of coming down Mt Messenger or down the Kaimais with the brakes rapidly fading.

Evidence the trickle down works. A strong economy with big businesses benefits all, a screwed up country the rich don’t want to have anything to do with, guts the economy.
