It's almost like some think there has never been mining in NZ before because surely the country wouldn't be as clean and green as it is if there was? Yet many of them will also point to other countries as a success story that have been built off making use of their natural resources....
Greens - let’s have the social investment like Norway.

Also Greens let’s ban the method Norway uses to pay for world leading social investment….

Im not against mining as long as the government does things properly. Overseas countries get up to 50+ % in royalties on sales or profits. My main concern is that Shane Jones is the man in charge and he is not to be trusted. Shonkiest politician ever.
Agree. It needs to benefit NZ. While royalties is great, the Taranaki oil industries is evidence how the country can benefit from high paying jobs and flow on secondary industries.

Shane Jones is one of the politicians that decides which projects go into the fast track process but expert panels process and approve or decline the consents.

Maybe but I still don't trust anything he has anything to do with.

You think Shane Jones and the fast track process do that? Lol.

The fast track process is more about donors to get back door access and circumvent rigours controls.

A mining royalty of 1 or 2 cents per dollar sent off shore - to wreck one of the countries greatest assets the environment.
Such pathetically back wards way to handle the economic issues we face as a country.

Shane Jones should not be handling this for the country - he is almost shamelessly corrupt and antagonistic about it.
Ask Port of Tauranga if it’s back door access? They’re all still going through a detailed & lengthy consent process. It’s not Shane Jones ticking off projects. Geez you try to spin some crap at times.

Countries that embrace foreign expertise, investment and technology that the country can’t provide itself = able to achieve greater than the sum of its parts.

Inward looking people that equate foreign expertise to trickle down = bring out the banjos…
And it’s these same fuckwits that are the first to complain about the unemployment rate & the lack of GDP growth. Just a bunch of whinging, offended at everything, dickheads.

Let’s turn it around the other way - do you think all mining should be banned no matter the positive economic consequences?
You are missing my point

There will be “lefties and righties” who would like mining banned completely.

In answer to your question directed to me - I’m of the view that if an economic case can be made for ⛏️ then the effects on the environment need to be considered and only if the economic benefits out way by a significant margin the environmental damage should it be approved.
