I’ve always been taught to respect elders, but some don’t deserve respect. I think you should always treat someone you’ve just met with respect but apart from you either lose it or earn it to me
Couldn't agree more đź‘Ź

Might have to bring it back soon if Crusher is right about the drums of war and the dangerous geopolitical climate.
We'll be Home Guard, watching the coast and making sure everyone complies with the blackouts and the cookers aren't signalling to the Russians
Good luck finding young people in the Western world prepared to fight for their country. More likely to fight for their cell phone.

I see Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke voted in bbc’s 100 most inspiring and influential Women of 2024
Of course. They promote this. The 2nd most hated person Australia is Gina Rinehart. Genuinely self made, employs thousands, generates billions, and singlehandedly funds Swimming Australia. But shes conservative, hates identity politics and so doesnt make cool lists of influential woman. I bet theres similar cases in NZ.

I’m sure she’d rather be on the list she registers on anyway

Genuinely self made?
The business was started by her Dad - and she inherited $75m.

The family especially the Dad are not well respected because of their attitude to the indigenous people over decades.

This fetishising of billionaires is truly odd.

Wrong, she inherited the company and millions in debt. Her family told her to shut it down and walk away. She revived the fortunes and then they waltzed back in trying to claim parts of the will.

So? Indigenous people had shit attitudes to other indigenous. They weren't sitting around playing Kumbaya.

Being born into a business or industry is the exact opposite of being "genuinely self made"

She inherited $75m and the business when Lang Hancock died.

lol performative journalism you mean? How many are actually behind? 30%.. So 2/3rds are tracking positively? What an indictment.

I'd be more concerned with the data integrity.
You mean measuring a government by the targets they set themselves when coming into power.
What a terrible thing for journalist to do.

Maybe we should see what David Goggins or Gina Reinhart make about it all?

wild strawman. My point was the headline was shit, not that it shouldn't be reported.

No she didnt. She inherited business interests. Lang was basically bankrupt when he died.

Cool story though
Wrong.

Business interests including a $12m per year royalty from Rio Tinto & her dad's personal wealth.

You can't grasp "genuinely self made" and reviving the fortunes of the family business are very different.

Glenn McConnell
December 09, 2024 •10:53am

  • Former Governor General Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy appointed Climate Change Commissioner.
  • She replaces Dr Rod Carr, who finished as climate change commissioner last week.
  • Felicity Underhill and Devon McLean will also join Climate Change Commission.

Former Governor General Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy has been appointed to lead the Climate Change Commission.
Reddy’s new role was confirmed on Monday by Climate Change Minister Simon Watts, following the conclusion of Dr Rod Carr tenure last week.
The Climate Change Commission is responsible for holding the Government to account for reaching responding to climate change and reducing the emissions which fuel it.

It also provides advice to the Government about policy.

Reddy worked as a corporate lawyer and went on to hold a series of governance roles in the private and public sector, including leading the Film Commission.
She served as Governor General for five years, starting in 2016.
Following that role, in which she saw three prime ministers, Reddy was elected chairperson of the New Zealand Rugby Board - from the end of 2022. In October, she confirmed she would not be standing for re-appointment.

Carr, in an exit interview with The Post last week, shared some advice for his successor.
“Stay the course. This is a marathon,” he said.
“There will be different choices made by governments — that is their right.
“There will be different consequences for those choices, and it is for the commission to help all New Zealanders understand the consequences of the choices that are being made.”

Watts said Reddy was starting her role as Climate Commissioner with an “extensive and distinguished career in law and governance”.
He said she would start in the role from February.
Joining Reddy on the Commission were new appointees Felicity Underhill and Devon McLean. Both bring expertise in decarbonisation and forestry governance, replacing outgoing commissioners Catherine Leining and Professor James Renwick.
