A user #7 highlighted Labour's annual 9% spending growth versus 1.5% under previous governments, arguing this fueled inflation. You got to clean up the mess before you put your foundations down don’t you?

Sounds like good project management lessons. Let’s just watch and learn.
The infrastructure is badly needed and it's never ever going to be cheaper than now.
Just have a look at the history of infrastructure in NZ.
In Australia they build things and worry about the circumstances afterwards. Now just relax and enjoy the cricket and we don't want you blowing a fu fu valve

Wasn't it supposed to be finished by now? What did Twyford do to stop it?
Some Candian crowd offered their services to pay for it. It was already discussed in cabinet and agreed on funding but for some reason Twyford acknowledged this new offer (it was also more expensive over the long run for more or less the same amount of money). Naturally it had to go to cabinet to be discussed and deservedly told to go fly a kite. By that time costs had exploded and there had to be new modelling done for funding and of course it was too late for the original plan now.

I get the feeling it was never really a good plan to start with? Seemed like something that came out of the blue when it was announced and everyone kind of went huh?

So more of the same bullshit. to call NZ a 3rd world county is an insult to the global south who have functioning mass transit.
You need millions of people in high density development for high speed rail.

Auckland is the only contender and it’s simply to spread out and low density. We need to be planning, protecting paths, etc but we’re to poor and spread out to provide what other countries do.

The economics need to lead the revolution in NZ and we want all the benefits without the hard work.

Bro I defend a lot of your posts, but you're out in the wilderness on this. Nationals servitude to the roading cartels in NZ is a fucking joke, yes Labour are shit, yes they dither on heaps, but they are normally headed in the right direction on national transit. National take 3/4 of the time to deliver but deliver the worst result.

Fact is, over the last 30 years National has protected said mafia from any threat NZs carcentric culture.

Do the reverse of the national cycleway. Build out the towns gradually with a modular plan to connect them in the future.
