year 1, blame the outgoing, for why they can't do what they campaigned on
year 2, implement some rats and mice policies for their backers
year 3, campaign, vote for us this time we'll really do something if we aren't in coalition, promise.
they wouldn't've even have had time to digest all the incoming briefings and they rolled out step 1 - gormless flog that luxton.
4 year terms seem like a good idea to break that cycle up, but the main parties both being crushingly useless and terrified of upsetting the median voter, it would just probably stretch out the mediocrity. would take a very popular PM to get 4 years back to back

No. Madness is continuing to promote car usage over public transport, madness is denying the nz public decent public transport and alternatives to cars, madness is reversing smoking reform to pay for tax cuts they didn't have the money for in the first place, madness is removing helping the poor to pay for tax cuts they didn't have in the first place, madness is completely ignoring the impact and coming impact of climate change, madness is reliance on fossil fuels.
Madness is the corruption of National and Act.

17% of transport was supposed to be by cycle now to justify the huge cycle way investment.
Its stubbornly stayed under 1% with Auckland council now saying if Aucklanders won’t support it they will cut investment… should have realised this BEFORE wasting billions when cyclings never going to work in Auckland.
I support public transport but it has to be appropriate to the size of the city, how and where people want to go and not a giant white elephant that stops all future public transport project because it bankrupts us.
The councils have been anti-car, so like with co-governance there will is a big backlash and bad will which will do more harm than good for the cause. You gotta take the people with you.
