🤖 Thread Summary

The Warriors' performance in their Round 1 match against the Raiders has sparked significant discussion regarding team composition, coaching decisions, and overall strategy. Following the loss, Tohu’Tohu’s_Knees #147967 expressed concerns about the team's direction, questioning where they go from here, Riz #147968 called for the inclusion of younger players. Zaggo #147969 critiqued specific player performances, including Niukore and Ford, and highlighted issues with bench usage. Many fans expressed disappointment and embarrassment, especially for those who traveled to Las Vegas for the game, 1995warriorsfan #148003. The team's defense, attack, and bench utilization were common areas of concern, Christchurch_Warrior #147973's succinct summary of needed improvements.

Recent discussions heavily revolve around coach Andrew Webster's selections and game plan. Several posters, including Kaos A. D.^148256 and Waz's Up #137, criticized Webster's decision to start Ford over Clark and his overall bench management, arguing it contributed to the loss. There's a sentiment that Webster favors "worker" type players over those with "X factor," limiting the team's attacking potential, Wahs Up TV #148469. Many believe the team is too reliant on older players and needs to integrate younger talent such as Leiataua, Vaimauga, and Halasima, Warriorsfan92 #148376's analysis of player stats.

Concerns have also emerged regarding the team's culture and preparation, with ##robbiemears #148583 pointing to reports of players out late before the game and the ongoing situation with Agar. Despite the negativity, some advocate for patience and giving Webster time to adjust, noting it's only the first round and that the team needs to focus on winning the next game, The Undertaker #148605. However, there's a growing sentiment that major changes are needed, with some suggesting that Webster's job may be on the line if the team doesn't improve, highlighting an underlying tension between supporting the coach and demanding better performance.

My thoughts on this team and it's not looking good........

CNK- tries hard but average player

Taine- electric player, needs to be in the half's or fullback...wasted on the wing

Leiataua- star player in the making but still very raw and learning

Pompey- backup first grader at best

RTS- was a gun player but past his best now.

CHT- backup first grader at best

Metcalf- already reached his ceiling and it's not very high unfortunately

Fish- great leader for the young guys and decent player but he's no AFB and gets put on his back a bit.

Egan- only a decent hooker when the forwards give him the go forward which ours lacked in this game

Jackson ford- backup first grader at best, wouldn't be in my 17

Capewell- way past his best and to slow

Niukore- he should be a damaging 2nd rower but to lazy and disinterested

Barnett- good leader and decent player but he's no dangerous tackle breaking prop

Clarke- Decent player and handy to have in the 17 but nothing special.

Walker- in my opinion the only decent player on the field today. As soon as he came on he changed the attack and gave a bit of variety.

Vaimauga- will be a star in the future but is still raw and doesn't get enough game time thanks to webbys bench rotation.

Big leka- same as Vaimauga, will be a star in the future but still very raw.

Pros:
- RTS showed his class.
- Vaimauga needs much more gametime. Halasima too.

Cons:
- Niukore is done. Gets bent when he runs, got fended by Ethan fucking Strange on defence.
- Ford needs to be fired into the sun.
- CNK, thank you for your service but I think your time might be nearly up.
- Webby - atrocious use of the bench. Left the young guns off for way too long while our pack was getting dominated.
Can't argue with any of that. RTS to fullback but shit thing is that means Kosi to the wing

Worst R1 loss in their history. We love an occasion don't we!

I'm all in on Webby and the development strategy, but two things need to happen for our forseeable future

1. Someone has to get throught to Webby about his bench use.
2. We have to have some fortune in the player market to sign a couple of mid-tier signings.

That defence though...
