Metcalf seems to chip his goal kicks for the ones that are short distance they spray off his foot. For ones further out he gives is a full follow through with his leg and they fly truer.

He's also got this habit of curving the ball the wrong way on those sideline kicks. I'm not sure if he learnt that off CHT (who had a similar habit), but we need someone to teach that out of him.

I have Rocco as our third best centre and if Pompey and Ali are both available he should slot in to the team on the wing IMO
I was thinking about this today. Problem is we need metres from our back three in the first few hit ups, so if Taine is playing fb we need that from the wings and Berry can't do it; if CNK is fb then maybe that could work. With CNK and DWZ back then it's no problem.

I think it is going to be a tough call to bring Berry back in. I think they will bring Rocco back. But Ed has done himself no harm with his play in his two matches.

His hit ups out of our end have been very influential due to his large ballast.

Ed was solid. He was unlucky to get tackled while trying to bat the ball dead that lead to one of their try's. Just one of those hard luck plays.

He put a shot on that turned over the ball creating a Try.

And of course he dived on a slippery ball and scored a crucial try.

That was two involvements that helped us win.

I also thought he might struggle with being the target of Reece Walsh et al raiding down his side, but he was good.

Could become a good player, he is improving, albeit it a lot slower than you would have hoped when he first came on the scene.

Bit late to the party, only just managed to catch the game due to service.

I said a bunch last year that CHT will come into his own with another pre season under Webby. He's had shit coaches up until this point, and came back last year after the poem writing expedition. Hope he continues to grow in confidence and develop under Webby. Whether that's a half or another position who knows, he's someone you want to find a spot for in your 17 though.

Not sure about the whole Leka should hold the starting spot going forward talk. No matter how special, you don't run a 19yo into the ground. NRL is a gruelling calender, his time will come and he'll continue to provide lethal impact off the bench for the time being until probably 2026 or if called upon due to injury.

Ford had his detractors when that first teamlist came out. But he's doing and providing exactly what I said he would. You need someone who has the ability to play long minutes and get through all the donkey work. Great value for money.

The attack is a funny one, because it's no different to last season really. We were the best or at worst top three team for getting down the field stats wise, but lost in the red zone. Is it an attack coach thing? Who knows, but striking similarities just for slightly different reasons. Difference is this year we are winning the ugly games that last year we lost, that galvanises a squad. Granted you don't want to do it all year or you'll burn out, so fingers crossed the attack clicks at some stage to take the pressure of the forwards who are grinding so hard.

Hope we can finally knock off an ANZAC win this weekend. It's been an eternity at this point, we finally got one back in NZ last year and buffed it against our whipping boys the Titans. Let's not make that mistake in Chch, please.

Last year the red zone attack with SJ was out of ideas and this year it’s they have no idea, which hopefully will only improve with more practices

I actually think our attack had a lot more shape (especially in the first half). Broncos were defensively sound and also gave away multiple 6 against where they should have been bin̈ned
Yeah, they were trying things like getting TT in at first receiver and LM coming around to the left ... sorta gave up on that second half. I'd like to see more of TT at fullback for that reason cos hard to do that consistently from a wing spot ... On the halves: we have to persist, and there's promise there, which we will hopefully see some result from over the next run of games against less defensively sound and intimidating sides ... Then again I do like having TMM there as a back up on the bench ... if we don't turn around our PD in the next 4 - 5 then there should be a re-think - i'm not even talking about wins, cause we should expect to go 3 or 4 out 5 as a minimum against the knights, the cows, dragons, dolphins and teh test coming against the raiders for a rematch

🤞fingers crossed all goes to plan and we pick up those wins as expected

Attack wise we can adjust our numbers slightly. Once we have a couple of setller tackles that get us in the middle of the field. Getting extra numbers on the side you go to gives you so many more options to run slingshots, overlaps, pick your runner. It's how we got skinned by Manly on the outsides.

But in the red zone. Our 2023 attack shapes are still valid in these variations:

Short passes aimed at multiple middle and edge runners. Our runners are key to making defenders make choices. Luke and CHT need to have attacking choices to go with the shapes we throw.

Even though Leka's try was against soft defence it was aided by Leiataua running at them too. That kind of stuff

I’m a big CHT fan too, but like you don’t know exactly where he fits at this stage. He reminds me of Thomas Leulauai, someone who is all effort and you want in your 17, but is he a 6? His performances have been good this year and he is always defensively sound, but does he have enough at 6 to break down the top teams?

TBH I was one of Chanel's harshest critics over the last few years, but I really can't fault what he's doing at the moment.

We're winning, so he's doing his job currently.

Previous to this year, his last 2 years for us he played 21 games at 5/8, scoring 3 tries and having 8 try assists, which is quite poor for a half.
This year in 6 games he's had 5 try assists and 2 tries which means he's quite high up on the lists for halves this year. So, a pretty massive turnaround from what he has provided for us previously.

Happy to eat my words from the last few years. If he keeps this up he'll be a big reason why we finish the year in the top 8

I'll eat my words my hat and my veges if we can get more out of Chitty Metty Fordy and Kosy

I have thought about it and I think Pompey should be the kicker. Sure Adam misses the really hard ones but he nails the easy ones every time.
