Maybe I'm too rigid in my thinking, but for me, once you make your debut for the club as a youngster you have three seasons to establish yourself.

I would have liked to see Zyon Maiu’u get a fee more games this year and next and then make a decision on where he stands?

Maybe that's what they are trying to do but he wants it now. I just feel like we are missing out on developing a genuine prop for the future.

I just feel like the warriors have done all the hard work on him up until now and then as as soon as the dogs come along we want hand him over.

Jacob Laban is in the exact same position as Zyon Maiu’u when you think of it, are we going to let him go and get game time now?

I know we can't keep them all but I'm hanging on to the Laban, maiuu, halasima, Demitric Vaimauga!

This is not a good move when you consider bunty is here scratching his arse waiting for his contract to die a natural death!

Why do the warriors have a softness when it comes to letting players walk?

I have no issues with them moving on youngsters if they dont feel they'll progress much futher in grade. I was surprised tho that he at least didnt get another oppertunity after what was quite an impressive (albeit short) debut.

Ok he didnt rack up big numbers (im not sure he's that sort of player) but the intensity he showed was quite refreshing. Took every hit up like he was coming off the back fence without any handbrake, backing into or stepping late at the line (in fact im sure he inspired Addin one part there who followed up one of Zyon Maiu’u's barnstorming runs with one of his most direct (without the trademark late step) hit up of the season., Was watching him on defence for the usual youngster drop off but he was working hard in the line moiving up and filling space.

Was probably gassed after his stint and the biggest question of him would be if that short impact style of game is sustainable. We certainly seem to be favouring the more mobile longer minute prop so that couldve worked against him, but i wouldve liked to seen him get another oppertunity to see if he could go longer......and it wasnt as if last season our bench players were going that gangbusters that he couldnt have been tried again.

Gone now so time will tell wether he kicks on at the Dogs or disappears into oblivion if it was a good call or not. Bulldogs seriously becoming one of my most hated teams with everyone seemingly getting signed up by them.......does lend more weight to the Manly prop were supposedly getting i guess.

The perfect impact bench prop.

A bit gutted. Really wanted to see more of him in the Warriors jersey this season. Hopefully the move to the Dogs lights a fire under him and he rips in…
(then we can buy him back in a couple of years  … he'll be homesick by then surely)
I am a little the same with my thoughts.
Showed promise but we are not privy to what is actually going on behind the scenes.
Might be an attitude thing or training issue. Who knows??
I have a feeling he will kick on but that's just me..
Hope he goes well for his future

It would be good if webby and McFadden could shine some light on that then.

Be up front about it then! Why do you let him go now? And not earlier?

If you had been Cam George or McFadden how would you have explained your decision to Zyon Maiu’u to decline his request for a release? Remember Zyon Maiu’u approached the warriors for the release or his manager at least and NOT the dogs. What wording would you have used Bangbros to say no to him. taking into account that Zyon Maiu’u would have told McFadden he will be getting 12-15 games minimum for dogs, What would you have said given you think no was the right answer, How would you have worded it?

I would have said, your 21, we have huge hopes for you in a warriors jersey.

We think you are behind Barnett and J F Harris, you and Demitric Vaimauga are our two rotation props for the next two seasons, we see you both stepping up even more when Barnetts contract is up, by that time you should be let's say 30 to 40 games in and 23.

By then we want you to be at least a 30 to 40 min prop with JFH, Demitric Vaimauga and yourself in the rotation, for now just lead the pack in cup with Bunty. You are first cab when there are injuries and there will be injuries!

Look at what the Panthers have done with Smith and Henry! There is a pathway here for him, upgrade him slightly even to show you mean business.

Mate we want you here for the long term!

Zyon Maiu’u isn't in our top 17 though...

He would get games this year if that Debut was anything to go by.

M Barnett
J F Harris
Demitric Vaimauga
E Clark (stint only)
Zyon Maiu’u
Ale
Bunty

I have him above Ale as a prop because I think Ale could play other positions.

Anyways this is all pointless. And definitely hanging on to Ale! I mean he's another one! He never gets the minutes to show his worth, there is more to this kid.

I might get flamed here but it strikes me at 6ft and 105 kg could be a bit slight in stature to be a dominant prop anytime soon, he looks a bit dwarfed by some of the bigger packs, he's a few years off being Spencer Leniu. Watch him become an instant destroyer now though, Gus is a very good judge of talent and they don't seem to be stacked with props so he should get some games.

Feel we didn’t give him the opportunities after a great debut. Seemed a beast and will bale an asset for the dogs.

Still, you can’t keep ‘em all 🤷‍♂️

I always felt there was a reason he didn't get given another shot last year. I don't know what it was, but I think there is reason we are letting him go. I do think he is a little over pumped on this forum, but he's only 21 and props need time. His NSW cup stats are pretty average, hardly demanding of NRL time.

Compare that to development contract Ieremia-Toeava;

In saying that, I don't see the point in letting him go unless there is something in the works. Or simply they are moving Marata to prop, and he's so far down the pecking order.

If we were to be interested in Josh Aloiai, he’s 189cm and 106kg, Zyon Maiu’u is 183cm and 106kg so not a lot between them. If that was the case, the difference is experience between the two with someone like Aloiai offering 95% tackle efficiency over 22 games and 102 run metres average over his most previous season. He certainly has potential so hopefully the move pays off for him, apart from when he plays us of course
