I'll probably come across as a jilted lover so I'll start by saying Zyon Maiu’u made a great contribution on ANZAC Day last year & it helped change the momentum. He should have been retained the following week ahead of Bunty too.
That said I don't think he'll be much of a loss in 2025 and it's not worth keeping players around who want to go elsewhere. He's a converted Backrower still learning his trade. Looking back to 2022 he was still primarily an edge player. When the Redcliffe Colts side he was playing for made the Grand Final, he didn't make the 17 unlike the younger Laban & Demitric Vaimauga. Granted the Warriors were restricted to 6 players in that lineup, he was the guy who missed out. Lleyton Finau was even preferred at Prop in that side earlier in the playoffs.

Good luck to him but it's hard to include him in a list of the best half dozen prospects aged 22 & under at the club

Why does it have to be for two years.
Because that's how long he had left on his contract with us. And that's how long he has signed with the Bulldogs for.

Knights wanted him for a year, give him for the year.
Exactly why I said only a basket case of a team would entertain the idea. And I highly doubt they chased him for a year loan.

We gave Jesse Arthars plenty of first grade reps then he pissed off back to the Bronx, you cited the Harry Grant example, so why can't the Warriors benefit from it?
Exactly what you'd expect from a team like the warriors at the time right? We were a basket case of a team leading up to that and COVID fkd us royally. Did you expect us to challenge the top 8 with Jesse Arthars and Daniel Alvaro from the Eels? Wasn't it much to do with us trying to find enough players to put on the park? Not really the loan deal you are talking about.

My point is, no team will take a rookie with 1 game to his name on a 1 year loan (unless you are a Harry Grant). That's a heck of a waste of a spot when literally every other team has a better supply of rookies. He's not the type of player to plug a gap for a year.

Except that's literally what the Knights were going to do. The length of time remaining on his contract has nothing to do with the loan term which the lender had all rights to dictate.

Who gives a shit of the team taking on the player is a basket case, which the Knights aren't BTW.

Those first grade reps at a crappy Tigers didn't hurt Harry Grants development. Playing for Covid era Warriors didn't stop Jesse Arthar's going to a GF next year.

If Zyon Maiu’u magically turned into Payne Haas I'm sure Newcastle would've tried to keep him but that's when you play hardball.

Arthars had played 3 seasons for 30 NRL games when loaned to us and Grant was already earmarked to take after Cam Smith.

Why do you think he only had very limited time in first grade last year?
His suspension at the beginning didn't help, nor did his injury after his debut, but not sure why he wasn't used again?

Anyways, I'm not going to defend why I think we should have kept him anymore, I just personally saw somthing in him, hope he actually kills it over in belmore, obviously Ciraldo thinks so, so good in him.

I hope we fill that spot soon with someone worthy, would be interesting with an earlier post saying the forum is about to go into overdrive, then retracted that statement?

And? If the Knights wanted to loan out a player with no experience who cares? They're the ones who would've been playing a rookie not us.

One of the hardest parts of development is gaining actual first grade experience. If another team is going to potentially give your fringe rookie prop a bunch of first grade reps that'll accelerate his development and give you a clearer idea of his ceiling than NSW cup ever will it's a win.

What'd we get out of saying no? A single 15 minute stint of first grade, and now an early release.
