I’ve been watching the Warriors religiously since 2002 and I don’t feel like there’s genuinely been one.
People are just happy to scrape into the finals. I’m fucking sick of that shit.
We’re not going to win the NRL in 2025.
You can hardly say we’re a solid bet for the finals.
So what are we actually losing by prioritising a rebuild. A thought out, sensible rebuild.
Which includes assessing player who a genuinely/realistically going to be here.
There’s nothing wrong with taking risks. Just don’t be stupid about it.
To much “keep my cake and eat it too” in NZ and Australia quite frankly.
Have a listen to SJ break down his try involvements rather than try assists. He puts his body on the line by targeting the inside shoulder of the opposite second rower, thereby creating space for the outsides. As someone said above he is a solid role player, who is a good defensive half. I don’t see what upside Boyd brings. If you look at games in the Covid period where CHT was the dominant half, he produced more than what Boyd has.
My preferred pairing is TMM and Metcalf for what it’s worth.
The disdain for CHT always surprises me as I’m sure he would have no problem finding a back up role at another NRL club

He's four years younger and his first receiver play is way more advanced than TMM.
TMM doesn't square up the line and draw in players like CHT does.
No one is saying he's better than TMM currently. TMM had a dream period last year where he was arguably the most in form half in the comp. TMM is clearly ahead in the pecking order.
But there are definitely areas of the game that CHT is streets ahead of TMM in.
Unless we do video session on it you're not going to pick up on it from random stats being thrown around on this thread

To preface, I’m a fan of both and just hope Webby backs whoever he chooses the keys for a good length of time to really show if they can and can’t do it.
BUT I wonder with halfbacks, esp with small sample sizes and in quite likely struggling teams(?) if you can fairly compare them.
What were the circumstances behind them getting the call up? What was the game plan? Were the forwards getting monstered? Did they have a dominant five-eighth or a rookie? Was the hooker doing much to attract attention around marker? All this type of stuff impacts how well the halfback ultimately looks (eye test and statistically).
EG Boyd has a ton of long kicking metres - is it cos he’s the man? Or were they going nowhere and he was the only one who can kick the leather off the ball?

Luke Metcalf is a lock in, whoever partners him is open to me, I think TMM will be ahead, but we need Australians in some positions because we just don't produce halves.
8 season for Martin and only twice played over 15 games, in a season. Who's to say he will be good enough in two season to command a spot here? I don't care if your kiwi or Australian, or Japanese! If you have taken a contract at the warriors, you are signaling your intentions to make a go of it here.
It does grind my gears how people will shit on a new signing before he's ever played a game for this club.

Mix between To’o and Turuva maybe, he’s quite evasive and strong in contact. Has pace not top tier pace tho
